  6. The memorial often has tributes left although it is significantly situated off club land, and doesn't mention the fact that the disaster happened at the stadium. There is also another much smaller memorial on a small piece of green space opposite the Leppings Lane tram stop, which was unveiled by local businesses a year or two afterwards.
  7. The Winslow has closed, I suppose they'll find a way of blaming us for that http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-news/local-news/2013/02/07/closure-of-iconic-everton-fc-pub-the-winslow-leaves-fans-group-homeless-100252-32761290/2/
  8. You only have to look at Tommy Smith to prove that point, only shown the red card once in over 600 games.....for dissent.
  9. I'd love to see one of the big clubs restrict themselves to 16 players tops and see how it goes over the season. There's no way they could go back to the old diet methods and that, unless every other club did, but I don't buy this need to rotate squads so much. The game is way faster and they run more now that's indisputable, but they are also conditioned to do so, unlike in the 70s/80s when the diet was pie, chips and ale. There's also the pitches today, they are like bowling greens whereas in the 70s by October they were cut up and like a peat bog at times. So although players may have ran less distance, they had a poorer physical condition to start with and were doing it on ground that would sap more energy. The pitches now though I think is part of the reason why there are so many injuries, but another could well be because medical equipment is so much more sensitive that it can pick up things that weren't so many years ago. My 10 year old son for instance has a very slight heart murmur and was going bi-annually to Alder Hey until he was 6 when they discharged him, and they said if he had been born ten years earlier it wouldn't have registered. Another factor with injuries is in the old days players wanted to play for the club, and were only paid a modest sum for doing so, but if they were part of a team that won a game, there were good bonuses for every point picked up and for trophies there were astronomical rewards (for the time). Ronnie Whelan for example, states in his autobiography that he got £600 a week in the mid 80s, but £125 per point and £5-6000 per trophy. Nowadays, players don't want to play for the club, they just want to pick up the money from whoever pays them the most, they get it regardless of whether or not they are in the team, so if there's a slight niggle, or they don't fancy the cold, they can be injured. Back in the day players would not report minor injuries as they were terrified of losing their place in the team and bonuses.
  10. He's had this hanging over his head a while and ultimately it occurred as a youth, if he's guilty he'll still not get jailed over it unless he does have previous we don't know about. Think any recent form is more down to the contract issues and agent turning his head than this. What I don't get though is why, when this offence allegedly occurred when he was a youth, he has been named, normally in such circumstances youths are not names at all in any criminal proceedings until found guilty.
  11. They are now saying they want phased payment agreement, Kenwright is probably proposing £1m now and £7.5m if they make the Champions League. The best ever failed transfer of theirs was Brazilian Muller in 1994, when all the journalists were waiting in the press conference for his unveiling but he had refused to sign at the last minute when he realised the salary they were offering him was gross not net. He was ushered into a waiting car quite quickly, but even had a red blazer on for the occasion.
  12. Some from the distant past from top of my head, all documented in Michael Crick's book 'The Many Sides of Alex Ferguson', which did not result in any legal action for slander/libel:- -Getting sent off for Dunfermline in the mid 1960s for fighting with an opponent. The opponent had taken Ferguson's place when he got dropped from the line up for the Scottish Cup final the previous season -Refusing to appear in a Falkirk team photo for the local paper as he had argued with the photographer whilst a player with Rangers. -As manager of St Mirren, bringing himself off the bench in a tour game in the West Indies to deliberately injure an opponent who was giving his players a hard time (elbowed him). -As manager of St Mirren helping himself to £25 a week from the petty cash but not providing receipts/explanations as to where it went, leading to his ultimate dismissal as the Chairman feared going to jail for tax evasion. -As manager of St Mirren, being seen in a car with a bookmaker shortly before a must win relegation game against Ayr, and then receiving a crate of champagne from that bookmaker after winning that game. -Receiving an envelope containing £40,000 in the mid 1990s from Andrei Kanchelskis agent, then putting that envelope in the safe rather than report it to the police, Inland Revenue or FA. Some more from United days in last 10 years:- -Telling a press conference that the FA treat United like shit, even though from 2000-06 United made a handsome profit by staging more England games than any other club whilst Wembley got rebuilt. -Prior to the 2011 European Cup final, after being asked a question he objected to about Giggs, being overheard saying to a media agent something along the lines of 'Whose he, we'll have him'. -Criticising the fact United would have players called up for the Olympics, despite the profits they made from staging games in the football tournament. -Driving down the hard shoulder, then saying he needed a shit when arrested. Around 2002, refusing to move a home game with Ipswich from Saturday to a Sunday after Ipswich had played in the UEFA Cup on the Thursday. -Not taking Chelsea to task over their illegal tapping up of Jon Obi Mikel, instead accepting the £12m 'compensation'.
  13. Deffo, Allardyce didn't get a chance to explain himself over his comments about Old Trafford, simply had charge slapped on him within 2 days.
  14. UEFA are contradicting themselves all the time, as on the one hand they are saying it's easier to fly London-Berlin than travel within Poland or Ukraine, but then stipulating that all host cities have airports with two terminals to keep rival fans apart, as they envisage most coming in by charters. Remember the 2008 Champions League final when Platini was asked about the lack of affordable accommodation in Moscow, his response was that fans should be on day charters and not be worried about accommodation. The 2 terminal airport thing means Cardiff is unlikely to get any games, when really speaking having a tournament in this way should mean it gets spread between cities in smaller countries that have one good big stadium but would have no chance of hosting a whole tournament alone due to a lack of stadiums of suitable size - Scotland, Ireland, Romania, Sweden, Denmark are examples.
