  1. I could post literally hundreds of clips but won't - obviously - I wanted to add this one as it makes me laugh and I'm a big sucker for Ainsley Hayes. I'd have also posted the 'you're fired' clip from Sam and the Gilbert and Sullivan clip also featuring Ainsley. Oh and when Toby demands Mendozza from some local plod. Actually I'd upload the first four seasons plus season 7 Agree with Paul it lost its way seasons 5&6 but even at its worst WW was better than most offerings on tv.
  2. Got to add my two pence worth to this thread. Second best series on tv ever
  3. I'm a Doctor Who fan. Done a few cons over the years. Somebody - I forget who - once said that fandom brings you into contact with the best of humanity and the worst of humanity. I'd go along with that. Normally I go with a couple of like minded mates, have a few beers, get what I want out of the event and enjoy the facilities of the hotel. Oh and I don't tell people I go. Too many stereotypes.
  4. Interpreter’s ‘low pay’ halts a trial | UK | News | Daily Express The last time the MoJ thought it was a jolly good idea to sell off services on the cheap. I can see why after the 'success' of the interpreters PCT contracts that they'd be emboldened to roll it out on a wider scale.
  5. Blur drummer who trained as solicitor attacks government's legal aid plans Always loved Blur
  6. I'd almost have more respect for them if they said do you know what fuck it. We're going to set up a public defender service for those who can't afford to pay for their own representation. The US model shows what a shit service clients often get but at least it would be operated by people with their hearts in the right place. Can you say the same of companies like G4S? Companies who will be paid extra money for getting you to plead guilty. And paid less for running it to an effective trial.
  7. I've written to my local MP (Angela Eagle) and have contacted the central Labour Party to ask whether they support the MoJ's ill considered proposals but currently have had no reply. Barry - once my kids are down I will answer the questions you raise. I think my OP does make clear why I'm concerned about this and more importantly why everyone should be. What I can say is the reason it doesn't need a debate in parliament is the legal aid changes can be implemented by statutory instrument which doesn't need an act of parliament. If this was just about money then fair enough you might think. But these proposals will change our legal system forever and not for the better. These new contracts will be allocated on a Price Competitive Tendering model. So, who can do this the cheapest not who can do this the best.

    Deja Vu

Solicitor wins £550,000 for false imprisonment Police officer allowed to retire on full pension rather than be called to account for their actions? Nah. I'm not having that. That would just never happen.
  9. When I have a little more time I am happy to set out in more detail why I am urging you to sign the e petition below. I also apologise if it has already been posted on here. I'm not on here as much as I used to be. The Daily Mail will have you believe this is whinging lawyers squealing as they are brought to financial account. You may even agree with them. But I am telling you that's utter bollocks - this is about the privatisation of the best legal system in the world and nothing less. The proposals - if implemented - will wipe out the high street solicitors practice overnight and in their place will be companies like G4S (who did such a sterling job at the Olympics) and Stobbarts representing you because they are the cheapest - and for no other reason. What sort of representation will you get then? I'll tell you what - McJustice and do you want fries with that? The biggest issue I have with this is there is no intention to debate this in parliament. The biggest erosion of civil liberties in the country (for poor people obviously) in nearly 800 years and the politicians don't think it's worth debating. Well I do. Hence the fact I urge you to sign the petition as it is the only way we can force one. The MoJ arguments are false, based on misleading, inaccurate and out of date information and when the Probation Officers recently spoke out against a mirror policy for that service they were threatened with disciplinary action. The Third Reich would have been proud. The MoJ's mantra seemingly being: if I cannot persuade you with the power of my argument, I will just sack you instead. For a government in support of free speech (why else would they run away from Leveson) it appears such support is only given provided you don't use that freedom to speak out against them. Is the current system perfect - no. Can savings be made - yes. Are the MoJ's proposals sensible, fair and just - only in an alternative universe. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE sign the petition. I can't tell you how important it is. Save UK Justice - e-petitions
