All you need is fish, chips and mushy peas. Carton of curry on the side. Chips, peas and gravy, if you have less of an appetite. Chippy sausages are shit.

Fish, chips and curry for me with 2 slices of buttered bread.

No need for bread with that lot, that's a filling meal in itself. I'm also not really a fan of chips to be honest.

Bread makes it even better. Fish and chips is a rare treat for me, so when I do indulge I want to stuff my face.

Peter Mandelson: "This avocado dip is delightful"

The bloke serving him in Verrall's chippy: "Those are mushy peas you posh cunt."

True story.

A true story, but nothing to do with Mandelson; the incident involved an American intern who was helping out on the 1986 Knowsley North by-election (after Kilroy resigned as an MP).

Wackers is rubbish. The batter is really thick and dense. Everything is greasy as fuck. There isn’t a top class chippy in York, in my opinion.

Used to go to Dhillons takeaway in Clifton just up from York Hospital whenever I went back to York Tony, as it's only a 3 minute walk from my Uncle's house. The fish and chips were very good. Been a few year since I've been mind so not sure if it's any good now.

Wackers in Scarborough was lovely last time we were there, and I hate it when food is too greasy, granted it was a while ago though.

The other one on the A64 I think is owned by someone from Whitby and was always spot on.

Whitby is best of all though.

I’m intnorth Saturday and Sunday and I am genuinely counting down the days to gravy, my lord I’ve missed it.

I find chippy gravy a bit rubbish and bland these days so good luck finding a decent one while up north.  There used to be three places I'd make a point of going to for their gravy, The Olympia after the match was one, and there was a couple in Huyton, one did a gorgeous Chinese style gravy, with a hint of sweetness and a very large hint of garlic, another did a delicious mushroom gravy.  Can't find anything like them any more.

You need to have real butter from the fridge, some ketchup and stuff it in your gob before the butter melts, food of the gods.

It's been mentioned here before but I don't think Liverpool is the best place for chippies. Great Chinese takeaways but I think places like Widnes and St Helens has better chippies

Fish and chips is my favourite meal. The problem is, good chippies are few and far between nowadays. Chip portions are much smaller than they used to be, too. When I first met my wife, she made the mistake of suggesting we order a piece of fish each and share a portion of chips. Share a portion of chips! Madness!

And yet she still became Mrs Moanero! A lesson to us all, even the most heinous of crimes in a relationship can be overcome with love, time, patience and regular sexual intercourse.

Does she see small things and think they're big?
