Based on what? He's done brilliantly at Brighton but was given time to build his team, something he wouldn't be given at Chelsea. Add to that he's dealing with a small squad of players at Brighton who are not household names, it remains to be seen how he adapts to a big team of 20 to 30 big name players all of whom are expecting to play, when they aren't playing is when the trouble starts.

And at Brighton there are lots of players who know they need to be coached  to get to where they want to be. Not sure that applies at Chelsea.

It's the fact everyone seems to think it's great though, not just city fans. I don't get what I'm missing about the fact a league is dominated by an oil state that can buy whoever it wants forever isn't conducive to long term entertainment value.

Exfuckinsactly, me neither

Potter's done very well at Brighton, largely in part because he's able to choose the people he works with in both the coaching and playing staff.

He'd be parachuted into a nest of wankers at Stamford Bridge. It would be a very different role. He'd be mad to go there if they wanted him.

Doubt we'd get top 16 if he went there, we're doomed.

Tuchel has gone up in my estimations:

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2022/09/07/revealed-why-chelseas-new-owners-decided-thomas-tuchel-had-go/

“A clash of management styles first surfaced on Chelsea’s tour of the United States, during which Tuchel cut an irritated figure. The German could not contain his anger following the 4-0 thrashing by Arsenal in Orlando and spent the entire journey back to England deep in his own thoughts.

It is unlikely that Tuchel was a particularly enthusiastic member of the WhatsApp group that was set up to improve communication and discuss transfer targets. The fact the 49-year-old prefers to be left to work and solve problems on his own, along with his close circle of coaches, is not in line with the inclusive approach of Boehly and Eghbali.

They want a coach who they feel comfortable bouncing ideas off and peppering with questions, even some that may seem tiresome to those with more football experience. There is also a desire for all of Chelsea’s departments to become more intertwined and cooperative.

Boehly’s interest in signing Cristiano Ronaldoprovided an early difference of opinion, with the American reluctant to simply take “no” for an answer from Tuchel, who, according to sources, seemed exasperated at having to explain his reasons for not wanting the Portuguese.

Crucially, the owners want a coach they can invest in for the future and who they believe is prepared to make an equal commitment. The first 100 days with Tuchel did not offer enough encouragement that he would relish their style or help create the culture they want to breed.”

Fuck that.

Pretty much agree with this. Potter shows a lot of promise but, big personality players at a club like chelsea may go 'who the fuck is he? What's he done in football?'

Reading a report on line, it seem Boehly was pissed off with Tuchel because he wouldnt sanction a move for Ronaldo, this after Boehly had given him a greater say in transfer targets. Surprisingly, Boehly wanted Tuchel to be more involved with transfers but, being a 'continental' coach used to having a sporting director do that, Tuchel wasnt keen on that role.

He was given a greater say, and said no to Ronaldo, so in line with having a greater say, the owner sacked him for saying no to a transfer he didn't want?

Winning the European cup, then getting forced to join your bosses what’sapp group so you can wake up to 10 messages with him saying shit like “amortisation” and “CR7”.

I’d have resigned.

Nah.

I'd have half arsed the first month of the following season and then taken my £20m pound payout or whatever it was.

Which appears to be what's he done. Fair play to him.
