The ideal scenario is to upgrade Naby with an attack minded CM who’s not injury prone, but I don’t reckon it’s that big a priority because I think a midfield of Hendo, Fabinho and Thiago is very very good, and Naby is a capable deputy (when fit).

That midfield 3 is very good - but it simply won't be seen often enough....like it wasn't last season.

It only started 9 times in 38 league games last season.

Thiago will miss at least a third of our league games and Fabinho and Henderson similar

The 4th choice is of course unreliable as well.

I’ve got faith that Elliott can share the load with Henderson. We’ll need more from what’s left though. Curtis Jones could yet kick on. The rest will just be what they are now.

It’s a funny one as we are essentially in something of a transition, yet will still be in the mix for silverware. That the Club is in a position to do this shows how far we’ve come.

We have a boss side and an incredible manager.

Squad is not far off being virtually perfect - but for me that one area where we could and should improve is the midfield.

Bin bagging shite like Oxlade and bringing in extra quality as well as improving the mix/balance in there would IMHO see us be set absolutely as well as we could possibly hope to be.

The first choice midfield 3 will also be in Qatar in a few months time. Whether they play any games is a question but they will have to travel, train and be ready mentally to play the next game. This will be after nearly 22 games including 16 in the league where every game is like a final thanks to the cheating cunts down the M62.

One of those is 31 and the other one is 32.

It will be mental to not buy another midfielder.

I agree but I think they’ll do what’s worked for them so far. Identify a player, or players, and wait for them to become available, without compromising.

The nature of where we’ve got to as a Club is that list of players will be small, expensive, and not that easy to get.

It’s not impossible we’ll sign one this summer, but I suspect quite a few things need to happen that might be outside our control to make it so.

On City, it sounds like they prepared to let some (not all) of Sterling, Bernardo Silva, Zinchenko & Gundogan to leave. Guardiola wants to “shake” up his front line.

Never ever going to happen, but I wouldn't be averse to us signing Gundogan. Still has a few good years in him, certainly a better midfield option than most we have, and a player Klopp knows well.

Thiago is not going I don't believe.

On the topic of midfields - City have already said Gundogan is out and Silva looks to want to go to Spain.

Those two out and Kalvin Phillips in (allegedly) is a downgrade.

I'm not sure why people are expecting a midfielder. Literally nothing has changed in that area since last season. And even if Ox goes, it's not like he was a big part of the plans/Carvalho could just take his place.

Being in for Tchouameni does not intrinsically mean we are interested in a midfielder and that we'll buy someone else, it could just mean we were interested in him specifically.
