Here's what I don't understand about it though. It's common knowledge he has a heart condition so unless they wanted him to come to the states to be examined by some super-duper heart specialist, better than they have in the whole of Europe, why bother with the whole thing? And if they did do just that, then why not make an official announcement? Simply state he failed a medical. Their silence on it, I guess could be out of respect to the player's career but failure to give an official announcement does seem a bit odd, and leads to speculation.

Another club (QPR?) signed him anyway and he had a moderately successful career. Liverpool FC who at the time were pretty successful chose not to buy him because he failed the medical.
