As a bit of light relief, the decommissioning of HMS Illustrious reminded me of the time they wrote a piece tutting and clucking about the stuff that the crew get up to when they go ashore - and they illustrated it with a picture of one of my mates.

As mentioned first time round, his doppelganger is quite clearly Carl Froch

It must really be hard work being so consistently racist and misogynist.

For example, most people would agree that if a girl in an oppressive country campaigns for girls' education rights, then she's doing something brave and honourable.  If someone tries to murder her, that is too horrible.  If she survives and continues campaigning - with her campaign growing ever-stronger as a result of the violence that tried to silence her - then that is undoubtedly the best way to triumph over evil.

Normal people would agree that it's wholly appropriate if that girl grows up to (pending A Level results) earn a place at a prestigious university; that would only further the causes of peace, equality and education against the forces of violence, bigotry and ignorance.

It's an unequivocally good news story, right?

Lecturer at college was going through Harvard referencing the other day for various people who don't get it, and I noticed a fucking Daily Mail article in his example list.

Immediately told him that irrespective of whether the format was correct or not, it's never an appropriate reference unless the essay is on gypsies eating swans or foreigners giving the royal family AIDS.

Silence afterwards.

Comedy gold from the comments section today

""Make it illegal in Britain to change name to an Islamic name from an British name it seems to me almost jihad dies were born with different names to the ones they die with. Surely MI5 and 6 have just got to check name changes to work out who they have to expel or shoot."

Ridiculous front page but to be fair I doubt May will be arsed, she seems to buzz off all that shit, always wearing leopard skin shoes and whatever else and wasn't she in Vogue or some bollocks recently? It's Sturgeon I feel sorry for. She may not be a lady, but she's all woman.
