While I don't think it's this drastic, it's interesting to see where outsiders see us beyond our "fans are back, Virg' is back, best manager in the world."

We've lost our aura of invincibility. Last season stripped that from us and did a lot of repetitional damage which we now need to build back up.

Maybe being a little under the radar is a good thing for us. We can just creep along quietly and stay in touch without there being all of this "are Liverpool bottling it again?" talk.

Only Jermaine Beckford doesn’t have us as part of his top four.

He played for Leeds and Everton. This is all we need to know about how much he understands football.

Chelsea are a collection of players bought on name value that don't all fit the same system, unfortunately they have the financial muscle to just freeze out the ones that don't and keep the ones that do.

Even worse they have a manager who can get them playing.

Maybe. but i kind of liked it when some teams were beaten before they got on the pitch.

That rarely happened to be fair, and in both 97 and 99 points seasons we had to compete for everything and won loads of tight games in the last 10 minutes.

As long as we can get back to our old pressing selves we’ll be absolutely fine. Most of those experts base their opinions on recent form (at least half of them tipped us to win it again last season). I guarantee that Guardiola considers us to be their main rivals.

Fair point although we did build up an insurmountable image of ourselves. The pressing game would be very welcome

I think Chelsea are quite overrated.

I agree, but winning big ears will give them massive confidence  and Lukaku is the classic flat track bully they've missed since Costa left.

We’ve got the best manager.

We’ve got the best goalkeeper.

We’ve got the best right back.

We’ve got the best centre back.

We’ve got the best left back.

We’ve got the best defensive midfielder.

We’ve got a captain to be proud of, on and off the field.

We’ve got, no worse, than the second best first XI.

We’ve got among the best centre back pairings.

We’ve potentially got the best front three (if Sadio and Bobby pull their socks up).

We’ve got the nucleus of a team who know how to win things.

We’ve got some good young players with half a chance.

We’ve got Anfield (when we make it count).

We’re a wounded animal.

We might yet sign a couple.

We’re not Everton.

Best poem you've written.

In truth I'm really excited about the season.

I don't hold out much hope of us winning the league as City have too much depth and the CL is a lottery, so that brings it's own excitement.

I'm more excited about the noise, the routine, the weird random games you watch on the tellybox that end up great, the European midweeks against European royalty, or putting some upstarts in their place.

All of it signifies getting our lives back and finally seeing the back of the fucking plague.

It's been a while, but I am really looking forward to Saturday, win or lose, becuase it feels like something new and different but at the same time familiar and comfortable is happening.

Spot on. It's not the greatest ambition, but I'll be happy with just being in the mix of a competition or two come the business end of the season. I'm looking forward to a few upsets, some good games and anything that comes from that journey. Proper football being back after the sterile shite we've been served for a year.
