Let's win the fuck out of it.

I actually think it's a very good competition this year, and we need to be the best team out of:

Inter

Fiorentina

Zenit

Kiev

Napoli

Sevilla

Wolfsburg

Ajax

Villareal

Roma

PSV

Spurs

Celtic

Everton

Bilbao

I think the biggest threat is Besiktas, as we're playing them next, but overall I think Roma, Napoli and Sevilla are dangerous.

IMHO, the squad we've got can go and win this, and it would be a cracking way to requalify for the CL. I think we should embrace it this year, we're tailor-made for European football.

I think we're better equipped to win this comp, especially with a tight defence, than we are to sneak fourth.

I also like the idea of playing in a euro final and winning a big trophy, and the experience that this would give to Rodgers and the squad.

I'd love to win it. It's still a prestigious trophy in my eyes. Far more than any domestic cup. Or  fourth place. The fact that the winner gets into the Champions League makes it even bigger...

Agree 100%. We've got a crowded schedule coming up - 4 games in 11 days, including West Ham, the bitters and Spurs. That run might have a lot to say about our priorities.

We then have Besiktas home on Feb 19, then Soton away on the 22nd, Besiktas away on the 26th, and City at home 3 days later, on March 1st. Will be tough.

Decisions will need to be made on the teams in both runs.

Much more chance of finishing 4th.

I think the opposite. For one thing, we don't actually have to win a game to get to the final. That's not all that far fetched: didn't Atletico Madrid make it to the final without winning their last 2 legs?

Unlikely, yes. But at this point it seems even more unlikely for us to beat a good side, current form notwithstanding, and we'll have to beat one or more of the sides above us to have a realistic chance for 4th.

I'd be extremely surprised if we managed a draw away to the likes of Sevilla, Villarreal, Roma etc.

Don't get me wrong, I think we've got very little chance of finishing 4th either.

Yeah didn't Rangers get to the final and only scored like half a goal in the entire competition. One thing about us is we're not losing many these days so you never know, we could draw our way through it, providing we've got away goals in us.

I bet there's not many better forwards than Sturridge either so if he stays fit it could be a great competition for us.

I thought the rules had changed after we won it in 2005, i thought that if a team qualified through other avenues (winning it or now the EL) then it would take the place of the lowest placed qualified team in there league so for our league it would be top 3 plus winners of CL or Europa League. i could be miles off but that's what i always thought happened

'because of the restriction that no association can have more than four teams playing in the Champions League, if the title holders are from the top three associations and finish outside the top four in their domestic league, the title holders' entry comes at the expense of the fourth-placed team of their association'
