Mo Salah has admitted that there will come a time when he will leave Liverpool but he has not reached that point just yet. It has been widely speculated over the last 12 months that the 31 year-old will join the list of big names that headed to the Saudi League. Despite their unrelenting persistence, that has not transpired just yet although when Jurgen Klopp made the shock announcement in January that he was stepping down as Liverpool manager come the end of this campaign there was a prevailing view that would be the catalyst for a Salah move to eventuate sooner rather than later. Speaking with Sky Sports, Salah admitted that player mo…

Work-rate. Incisiveness. Nous. I don't ask for much. This is how it's gonna be. Build from the ground up. Back on the Europa League grind. Finishing top of our group meant that we had a bye from the Round of 32, which saw the Europa League group runners-up face the teams that had finished 3rd in the Champions League groups. One of those was not Sevilla thankfully. They are the only team in Europe that actively wants to finish 3rd in their Champions League group and drop down. They have an extraordinary record in this competition, which qualifies them for the elite competition each time, only for them to do very little in it. Anyway, I d…

The Reds fielded a stronger than expected side in Prague and it paid off with a big win that makes the second leg at Anfield a formality, but it may have come at a cost as Ibou Konate was forced off with an injury that makes him a doubt the weekend. Chris Smith is joined by the usual Europa League line up of John Brennan and TLW Editor Dave Usher to discuss tonight's game and to look ahead to the big one on Sunday. View full article

I don’t think any of us seen this coming. The team was much stronger than expected and the scoreline was way more emphatic too. I thought we’d see a much changed team and I didn’t particularly care about the result, because if it had gone wrong we still had next week’s second leg to turn things around. Instead we got pretty much the strongest line up Klopp could have picked, with the one exception of Quansah starting ahead of Van Dijk. The logical assumption there was that we’d see a repeat of last week in the FA Cup, with Konate and Virgil doing a half each. For whatever reason Klopp didn’t do that and now we need to wait until Sunday to see just how fucked …

Michael Edwards is in the frame for a return to Liverpool where he played such a pivotal part in setting up the club on the pathway to success. Edwards left Liverpool in 2022 after 10 years and despite having many offers to join rival clubs including Chelsea, the 44 year-old has instead taken up a role as a consultant at the sports advisory business Ludonautics. Edwards met with FSG in Boston last weekend as they conducted a meeting about what role he could possibly play in the post Jurgen Klopp era. However as the Guardian reports, it will not be a return to the Sporting Director role with Edwards wanting a role that holds more control…

Jurgen Klopp believes that whoever takes over from him in the summer is coming at the perfect time to write their own chapter at a wonderful club. Despite being such a transformative figure during his tenure with the Reds, Klopp has never been one to take all the plaudits, insisting that he is just one person playing their part at a club in their quest for ultimate success. When the shock news came that the German would be departing the club in the summer, the obvious questions by the fans was, what comes next, and who would be that person to take over from the iconic figure? A daunting proposition to most, but as the man explained at h…

And we thought last week was dramatic. This team, fucking hell. It wasn’t a good performance, the lads just didn’t have it but they dug deep and found a way. That’s what Champions do. It’s hard not to draw parallels with the Villa game in the title winning season, but it’s too early to know if it will have the same significance. Teams who win titles usually have moments like this one that they look back on as being pivotal though. Hopefully this is ours. For so long it was looking like it wasn’t going to happen, yet because of the faith I have in these players I wasn’t panicking and even going into stoppage time I thought we’d win. It wasn’t until around 95 mi…

I’ll start at Goodison and the hilarious scenes that saw the Blues concede twice in stoppage time to lose to David Moyes. Then as their disgruntled fans were leaving the stadium they heard the news of Darwin’s winner at Forest. We often say “Imagine being us”, but another way of looking at it is... imagine being them!! Kinell. They were awarded a first half penalty when Everton old boy Zouma handled in the box. It is a pen, no doubt about it, but I’ve seen more blatant ones not given this season so it’s always a little irritating when VAR gets involved in these. The Odegaard one at Anfield was way worse, but having said that Everton had not been given a single…

Jürgen Klopp has hailed the talent of Harvey Elliott after the 16 year-old produced a impressive display in Liverpool’s thrilling penalty shootout victory against Arsenal on Wednesday evening. The Reds came back from 3-1 and 4-2 down to tie the scores at 5-5 through a Divock Origi strike late in injury time before winning 5-4 in the shootout.Elliott became the youngest ever player to feature for Liverpool at Anfield and he won the spot-kick which James Milner duly converted at the end of the first half and Klopp said (via the Echo) that it was great he was able to display his talents to a large audience.“Harvey played really well. Not like you would expect from a 16-year-o…

18 different nationalities have played for Liverpool's 1st team in competitive matches (League, FA Cup, Caraboa Cup and Europa Cup) this season! And 13 different English players have featured as well! Must be some kind of record? The countries represented are England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Brazil, Holland, Greece, Cameroon, France, Spain, Argentina, Japan, Hungary, Portugal, Egypt, Uruguay and Colombia

Monday Feb 26: Still basking in the glow of yesterday. The content that comes out after these wins is always brilliant and this is no different. All the footage of Darwin being mental, from numerous angles, the goal celebrations put to the Rocky music, the image of Klopp fist pumping the fans with a crestfallen Caicedo sat on the pitch looking on, the kids celebrating together with the big photo of them all, Klopp’s dad dancing to Dua Lipa, Diaz’s actual dad dancing, the video of the best Allez Allez Allez ever that spurred the team on, Neville savaging Chelsea with that “billion dollar blue bottle jobs” just because he was pissed off we’d won…. there’s just s…

Jordan Henderson has spoken once again about his departure from Liverpool and has admitted that it was the right time to leave the club. In September last year, the man who captained the Reds to Premier League and Champions League success produced what could only be described as a train-wreck interview which included this eye-raising quote that “at no point did I feel wanted by the club or anyone to stay." Jurgen Klopp produced the perfect response, never one to embarrass a player he thought so highly of, but also putting the truth out there. “Hendo said the truth. That's how it was. We had talks, I told him I wanted him to stay but w…

Work-rate. Incisiveness. Nous. I don't ask for much. This is how it's gonna be. Build from the ground up. And so the first cup final of the season, and it's up against a familiar foe. Despite the league disparity between the 2 sides, I'd imagine the bookies have Chelsea as slight favourites purely down to our crippling injury list. When our players and coaches talk about the togetherness of our squad, I don't think they mean the togetherness in the physio's room! Chelsea have struggled for consistency ever since the Russian gangster was booted out in the aftermath of his country's invasion of Ukraine, and that is despite the ridiculous …

Once again the Reds left it late but once again it was an incredible moment and a massive win. Klopp's mentality monsters were on the brink of dropping two points and perhaps ending the weekend in third spot, but up popped returning substitute Darwin Nunez to win it and spark manic celebrations in the away end. TLW Editor Dave Usher is joined by John Gallagher and a just back from the City Ground Julian Richards to look back on another dramatic win for the Reds and to reflect on what it might mean for the rest of the season. Liverpool are set for another battle with the Egyptian FA after officially asking them to exclude Mo Salah from the March friendlies. Salah had his African Cup of Nations tournament ended early after suffering a hamstring injury, and after a lay-off he returned to Liverpool action against Brentford on the 17th of February playing the second 45 minutes where he scored and produced a assist in the 4-1 victory. However bad news was to come in the aftermath of that game when the winger sustained a muscular injury which was apparently linked to his original ailment. There was always apprehension and caution attached in regards to how to brin…

Bayern Munich have identified Andy Robertson as a prime transfer target as it is believed that Alphonso Davies will move to Real Madrid. The Canadian left-back has reportedly reached a verbal agreement with the Spanish giants to join them either at the end of this season or when his contract expires in 2025. Bayern have their work cut out in retaining their Bundesliga title this season as the Xabi Alonso led Bayer Leverkusen is currently eight points clear. Losing a key member of their squad will come as a major blow, but they have a drawn up a number of options and as the Daily Mail reports, the Liverpool left-back has been earmarked a…

Last time I wrote: "The front five are now up to 57 for the season and will go close to 100. The team is up to 84 and will go through the 100 barrier sometime in late-February, early-March and could hit 130 or more by the end of the season. We’ve done this before and not got the rewards we deserved in terms of trophies, so there are no guarantees, but with those numbers, we are going to be in contention – and the supporters likely on valium – for the rest of Klopp’s reign." Well, I had to get something right after the injury jinx I ‘cursed’ the squad with on the pod! I wrote that just after the Norwich game on the 28th of January and since then, things have go…

Yesterday was massive. As someone said on the match thread it was like Villa away when we won the league. Everything counts now. I can’t believe it but I’ll be wanting the red mancs to win today.

I’ll kick things off at Old Trafford where the Mancs lost in comical fashion to Fulham. United had five wins in a row and were unbeaten in 2024 going into this. Some had been fooled by that and were thinking they were turning things around. Shit, Gary Neville was even predicting they’d beat Spurs and Villa to a top four spot. It never ceases to amaze me how people can allow themselves to be so influenced by results and completely ignore what they see with their own eyes. Klopp always talks about how important the performances are in terms of knowing where you are at as a team. If we win and play shit, he’ll say so and he’ll say that we need to be better next t…

The kids did it again! Goals from 18 year old Youth Team duo Lewis Koumas and Jayden Danns saw off Southampton at Anfield as the young Reds set up a quarter final clash at Castle Greyskull. Chris Smith is joined by John Brennan and TLW Editor Dave Usher to bask in the glory of another great night for the Academy and to look ahead to the game at Forest this weekend. View full article
