Work-rate. Incisiveness. Nous. I don't ask for much. This is how it's gonna be. Build from the ground up. This game is live on ITV. One of those games where I'm sure both teams would have preferred a rest week. For Southampton, it's because they are in a fight with the likes of Leeds and Ipswich for an automatic promotion place (maybe even with Leicester, who've recently managed to rekindle their Premier League form of last season, with that Toploader-looking fuck Wout Faes and his own goals to the fore, though they still hold a significant lead in the table). If Southampton go on a cup run, that generally means having crucial league ga…

Jurgen Klopp has admitted that there is no time scale regarding a return to first team action for Alisson. The Brazilian keeper last played for the Reds exactly a month ago in the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal. He then missed the next game against Burnley with the flu before recovering from that and was set to play against Brentford on the 17th of February before injuring his hamstring at the last training session. From the moment he sustained that injury, Klopp indicated to say that it would not be a quick return from this setback, and speaking ahead of the fixture against Nottingham Forest, the manager went into a bit more detail as the Mirr…

I can’t really think of an intro for this. I don’t know where I’ll end up going in this report either as there’s so much to cover and my mind is racing off in all kinds of different directions. I’ll start with Klopp’s assertion that it’s his most special final. It’s not mine, that is always going to be Istanbul, but I think this might be second you know. Doesn’t matter that it’s the League Cup and not one of the bigger prizes. It’s all about context and when you factor in everything that ultimately led to this victory, and how it made us all feel, this is right up there when it comes to the level of achievement. So much was against us going into the game, and …

Three goals, another clean sheet and the kids step up. A perfect evening’s work then. Yes, it is I, Dan Thomas, to regale you with the tales of a midweek win in the FA Cup 5th round. Instead of a cup goalkeeper, Dave has cup match report writers! It wasn’t as straightforward as the scoreline suggests but we’ll come to that. This result stands squarely on the shoulders of Liverpool’s Academy. It feels like we could have at least two breakout kids to step up into the first team in Bobby Clark and Jayden Danns, and James McConnell isn’t that far behind either if not an equal in the conversation. The Academy is in the best place it has been for a long, long time.…

As requested by @Ronnie Whelan. We've already had Scotland but either of the other 3 on their own would be woeful. Together though.... an all time Wales, Republic & NI. 442 Add some player suggestions and I'll kick it off tomorrow. (I was meant to do Spain next so I'll do that one after this)

My blood pressure has just gone absolutely soaring through the roof yet again because of this ungracious con-artist. Yet again spouting off about Liverpool. He needs to know his role and shut his mouth: "I would rather hope that, if I was ever going to be offered the England job, it would be with the backing of the important people," Hodgson said. "That would be the media, who represent the fans and, of course, the fans. Otherwise it's very difficult for anyone who takes the job because, even if you've got the competence and you are maybe the 'right person', you need to be perceived as the right person. And the perception of my Liverpool appointment was not right and,…

Jurgen Klopp has pleaded for Liverpool’s next generation of talent to be able to focus on their own game and grow in an organic sense. Jayden Danns continued the week of his dreams on Wednesday evening when he scored two goals while his academy teammate. Lewis Koumas scored on his first-team debut as Liverpool registered a 3-0 win against Southampton to move into the Quarter-Final of the FA Cup where they will meet Man United at Old Trafford. Following the euphoria of Sunday’s dramatic Carabao Cup Final win against Chelsea, attention turned to this midweek tie, and just what sort of line-up the manager would be able to field. Some of th…

What a day! The Reds secured a tenth League Cup with a dramatic extra time win over Chelsea at Wembley to keep us on course for a glorious end to the Jurgen Klopp era. A true captain's goal from Virg averted the drama of a shoot out, following another topsy turvy final in which fortune favoured the brave. However, it was the Reds Academy graduates rising to the occasion against the billion dolla blues that will live long in the memory. Chris Smith is joined by Julian Richards, Paul Natton and TLW Editor Dave Usher to celebrate a win that sits proudly amidst the pantheon of our all-time great final triumphs. View full article

No I've never heard of him either, but he's the U16 coach and will replace Mike Marsh.

Obviously, none of us want to even think about the day that Jurgen Klopp is no longer in the dugout, but it will happen one day and personally I think we’ve got two, maximum four seasons left before he goes. There are no obvious outstanding replacements anywhere in football. Xabi Alonso is maybe one, but I think he’ll end up at Madrid so this makes me think we might already be looking at an internal solution. Almost like a throwback to the old boot room days! I was just reading the press conference that Lijnders gave for the league cup semi final and it made me wonder if part of the reason we are getting him to do them is because the plan is for hi…

Apparently becomes our 4th youngest goal scorer in the league with his goal tonight. I know some think that people like Morton are the better prospects but i honestly think he is the best prospect we have in midfield. I think he is going to be a star, the lad is absolute quality. Thankfully he seems to have the physicality to be a top level midfielder too.

Thought he deserved his own thread as the other young lads all had one. His performance in extra time on Sunday was exceptional. I'd go as far as to say I thought for that 30 minutes he was the best player on the pitch after a slow-ish start when he first came on. There was a stat floating around about how he touched the ball twice as many times as both Enzo and Caicedo in that time and the things that stood out to me where that he was always available for the ball and that he used it really well. He just brought a calmness that was way beyond what you'd expect of someone that age. Time will tell on his level but there's definitely pote…

Monday Feb 19: Klopp said something to the press on Friday in amongst all the Alonso stuff that I thought was a little odd. I didn't include it last week because there wasn't really anything to say about it, it was probably nothing. It was about Mbappe and the quote was 'Obviously, I'm not involved in that, but I can tell you I'd be surprised if all the top clubs were,' Klopp said. 'The top clubs I know, for most of them it will be tricky. Wages, signing-on fee.' The reason I thought it was odd is because the market will set the price. If Mbappe is a free agent he has to sign for someone and if nobody is willing to pay him what he's on at PSG then …

A reflective Jurgen Klopp has described Liverpool’s thrilling 1-0 win over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final as the most special trophy in his career. Liverpool arrived at Wembley Stadlum with a patched-up squad already missing quite a few first team regulars and with the confirmation that Mo Salah and Darwin Nunez would take no part in the showcase final it was an added blow. But if we know anything about this Liverpool team under the German, it is that they thrive on adversity, if someone is missing, another player steps up to the mark and play their role with aplomb. This was taken to extreme levels in the closing 20 minutes of regul…

For the second time this season Man City were unable to beat Chelsea. The last time they met was 4-4 but this wasn’t as dramatic. Chelsea probably should have won as they took City to the cleaners on the counter attack several times but only made it pay once, when Sterling send Walker for the Manchester Evening News and curled one in against his former club. He sort of celebrated but also sort of didn’t. The gaps in behind City were begging to be exploited and Sterling and Jackson got in behind regularly, with Palmer pulling the strings behind them. He was fucking ridiculous and it’s genuinely hard to comprehend why City would let him go. I know I’ve reference…

Mauricio Pochettino has looked to gain a psychological blow ahead of the Carabao Cup final by aiming to play the ‘officials ‘card’ and hoping the occasion is not decided by emotion. The Chelsea manager is still clearly aggrieved by what he feels were wrong decisions as his team were convincingly beaten by Liverpool last month. With Jurgen Klopp moving on at the end of the season, there has been a lot of articles written about the legacy of the German and what it will mean for Liverpool moving forward. Pochettino was at pains to explain that this is in no way a criticism of Klopp, but more so decisions be judged fairly for both sides as …
