Heard him on an interview for the World football podcast few days ago, speaking to a German interviewer. He actually just put on the Dutch accent again. Think the interviewer was a little confused.

My accent goes a bit funny when im speaking to foreigners who have bad English, I try and speak in there accent so they can understand me better like meeting them half way.

So I don't know why i've just voted No! Anyway I don't see what the big deal is with it myself, or why people found it so funny?

I think we all do it. I certainly speak in a much slower, clearer and simpler way when speaking to foreign people I meet and say stuff like "You like football, yes?" because that's the way they ask questions.

It just happens naturally. Though I don't think I end up with a strong accent like McClaren did.

So in answer to the poll, I don't think it was a joke, but nor was it a conscious attempt to fit in. It was just something which happened subconsciously.
