How many presses are successful and lead to a turn over?

Also, given most games City are camped on the oppositions box, would that artificially inflate the stat?

I don’t think City are as good this season and I think he’s a reason for it - they aren’t as much a team of 11, they are 10 + Haaland.

We're going to need translations for the Football before long.

Turnover = winning the ball back

Press = defending from the front

I'm sure there was another one during the World Cup, I had no idea what it meant.

The Amercanisation of our sport is almost complete.

I’m waiting for Klopp to start verbalising at the useless fuckers in midfield

Exactly. It's not really describing an actual press, leading to a change of possession (like Mane and Firmino were specialists at). In Haaland's case it amounts to him running around chasing the ball from one CB to another just after the defender has played the ball. He doesn't really ever get close enough to make an impact, but ambles around just enough to be visible. Put him in our team with the pace our midfielders run with atm and we'd never get the ball back. Watching Norway play it's pretty painful seeing what should be our superstar very seldom involved, especially against the better teams. Closer to home (Liverpool) Henderson is/was another example of someone being credited with pressing well because he looks really busy and hustles and bustles in the vicinity of the players on the ball. He never really was very effective, seldom gaining possession unless he had help from 2/3 other players. Mo and our other forwards made it effective though. He's even worse at it now, even if we get the occasional 15-20 minute burst from him. I fully agreed with the purchases of Keita and Thiago at the time (of both), as they are much better at putting actual pressure leading to us gaining possession than Henderson.

Haaland's biggest quality on the defensive side is that the opposition defenders are shit scared of losing the ball, knowing that de Bruyne or Gundogan will put him in behind immediately if City regain possession, causing them to be nervous when trying to play out from the back, or just launching it upfield (leading to consistent City press). I didn't really want Haaland (not that it was ever a chance of it happening) as I didn't think he'd take part in the way we press. City's small, quick-footed, technical players more than make up for the lumbering oaf up top though. Helps that the refs never clamp down on their tactical fouls too, meaning they compress the field exceptionally well most days. BUT, if other teams get a lead on them, and dare to play positively, like Southampton did on Wednesday, Haaland is definitely a weakness in their TEAM play. He'll probably shatter a few records on his way, but I doubt (as I've said all season) they will score (and win) more as a team.

Nailed on to happen.

Arthur Melo finally stays fit for more than 5 mins and features in our last 5 games of season and does ok (compared to the usual shit show our midfield is anyway)

We end up buying him relatively cheaply as a result and he gets injured in our pre season camp and is out for the whole of next season.

Why are we not sending him back? Were we stupid enough to sign a crock without a January return agreement?

I'm less concerned about this than I am about our goaltender's latest mistake and the worries when I try to do the math on our likely points haul.

We need two top class midfielders adding to the roster.

Just been looking thru the ‘Carvalho Welcome to Liverpool’ Topic.

Looks great in the show-reel.

Described as ‘an exciting attacking midfielder. Can play front three. *Coutinho-esque*

Bought to compete against The Ox, , who in turn replaced Coutinho.

Everybody was excited.

WTF HAPPENED?? Why is this guy not in the starting lineup? Another waste if funds? Are we destroying prospects?

He's not a forward, he's not a midfielder, and he weighs about 8 stone wet through. No idea why we bought him.
