Malaysian Boeing 777 goes missing

The thing is would the rebels have a trained crew; unlikely I reckon and it's not the sort of system where you could just wing it (no pun intended).

The leader of the terrorists Igor Girkin (Strelkov) immediately commented on the airplane catastrophe, believing that it was the Ukrainian jet that crashed down: 'In Torez An-26 was shot down, its crashes are lying somewhere near the coal mine “Progress”. We have warned everyone: do not fly in our skies.'"

They have mistaken it for a Ukranian Jet by the sounds of it.

I imagine it would have flying in a recognised international air corridor; the rebels could do with an SSR and some IFF if that's the case.

All the rebels need is a few thousand drone strikes.

And if there were British passengers on that flight, I hope we give it to them.

Or maybe nobody notices their ground assault into Gaza

Not that anyone would say boo anyway. Isn't the US and UK government position "why are the Palastinians causing a nuisance by getting themselves trapped under the treads of those Israeli tanks?"

Two Boeing 777s from the same airline involved in serious incidents in such a short time frame seems very suspicious to me.

I'd rather wait for the investigation before pinning blame to any particular party but anybody who is capable of blowing a plane out of the sky at 30,000 feet has got some seriously scary weaponry and makes me weep for the human race.

IFF on a civilian plane?

Christ we're off again.

No they don't. A slow flying airliner, flying in a straight line with no counter measures is incredibly easy to shoot down.

Having the kit to do it is the hard part.

SSR would certainly have given them a good indication of what it was though would it smart arse; or are we conveniently ignoring that part?

I wasn't trying to say they should have such facilities or that civair would carry IFF but during an offensive operation such systems give a much clearer battlefield picture which is why such mistakes can happen.

You sell gas don't you?

Having a weapon to strike anything at 30,000 feet, regardless of speed, is pretty scary in my opinion.
