Once again being allowed to blatantly flex its political bias while we're told to pay for our licences or else it's a trip to the court, a fine and a criminal record.

    Jeffery Epstein & Friends

I know this has been mentioned in the Trump and Monarchy threads but there's that much shit flying about now, it needs it's own thread on the GF. As mentioned, Prince Andrew is back in the spotlight for his links to Epstein. There's allegedly a shit load of other high profile people like Bill Clinton who might be felling a tad nervous and it seems it came as no surprise that Epstein is no longer around to point fingers. Just how big do the GF think this goes ? Did Epstein hang himself, or was he given a, ahem, helping hand ? Now that JE is no longer around to talk, it's no surprise the whole thing is going to spiral into a massive conspiracy so here's a couple of starters.

    The Railways

I see that Virgin have lost the franchise to run the West Coast line. It's been awarded to Fistgroup and Italian firm Trenitalia set to be called First Trenitalia. Virgin have also been bared from bidding to keep running the route but the BBC article doesn't say why. FirstGroup replaces Virgin to run West Coast route https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-49341772 I had no particular problem with Virgin as every time I used the service, mainly to travel between Liverpool to London, I always managed to get a seat and provided I booked early enough, managed to pay a decent price. When there were delays, it was never a problem relating to Virgin themselves. It was either weather, infrastructure related or in one case, someone threatening to jump from a bridge. When there were delays, it was a piece of piss to claim back refunds. Virgin are far from faultless but compare that with the experience I had with Trans Pennine Express when traveling from Manchester Oxford Road to Edinburgh a couple of weeks ago and a Sunday morning for the friendly against Napoli. The train started out at Manchester Airport and was already over half full by the time it chugged ten minutes late into MOR. The platform was rammed and it was obvious there wasn't going to be enough seats in the four carriages for everyone to sit down. Not only that, but it was plainly obvious the train was going to be severely overcrowded, and by the time the train left MOR, the train was full to bursting. It was that bad, it was virtually impossible to get down the carriage to the toilet which didn't help the lad who threw up over the poor girl who was sat on the floor in front of him. This problem obviously just isn't related to First Pennine Express but how the fuck are the train companies allowed to just get away with selling tickets where the only regulation on the capacity of the trains seems to be when they literally cant squeeze anyone else on them ? There's laws in place preventing animals being transported in such a way. Contrast that with the experience we I had when trying to get back form Madrid to Alicante on the Sunday morning after the CL final. Couldn't get a ticket on any of the direct trains as all the seats were sold. I don't know if renationalisation is the answer but the current way of operating the trains is very flawed. In other railway news, next years price increases have been revealed and are set to go up by 2.8% in January. Rail fares set to rise again by up to 2.8% https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-49331238

    Living Remotely or Off Grid

Any of you cunts fortunate enough to be able to do this ? If not, would you like to be in a position to give it a go ? I'd love to be in a position to do this or at least give it a go. Watched a two part programme on BBC 4 a while back about the tiny community living on the Fair Isle which while part of the UK, is in the middle of nowhere. Just been reading this about another tiny community in a place called Scoraig up in the north west Highlands of Scotland. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/in-pictures-45046023 So, anyone ?

    Joe Biden

Think we need out own dedicated thread for the president elect. I had a look and there doesn't seem to be a thread to bump about Joe like there was for Trump. Unsurprisingly there is one for his daughter Ashley dating back to 2009. Anyway, think this is going to be one of the most watched terms of office of any president. Not only is he going to be picking up the shitty baton of Covid, he's also going to have to deal with unifying the country and the aftershock of Trump. Added to that, time or age really isn't on his side for him to stand for a second term. So, I'll get the ball rolling with this. The NHS

Been meaning to start this thread for a few months now, and given the current state of affairs, now seems as good a time as any. I don't ever recall a period in my lifetime where the NHS has ever been in the spotlight as much as it is now. As we all know, and I I said last night, it's been stripped to it's bare bones and if it weren't for the dedication of those working on the front line, especially right now, fuck knows what state this country would be in. It's far from perfect but that's hardly it's own fault but during the last few weeks, I've seen some stuff that's wound me up a bit. I seen similar stuff in the run up to the GE. It fucking pisses me off when I see NHS employees cosying up to Tory MPs when it's these same shower of cunts who've done nothing but run it into the ground for the last ten years. Over the last couple of weeks I've seen two or three higher end NHS staff IMO, down play the current situation and give the impression that they're coping. I cant help but feel this should be a time when they make the most of it's/they're plight and I feel now is a time for them to be more vocal about how bad things really are. Tonight is another one of those nationwide applause events but I wont be taking part again. Not because I don't think they deserve all the credit they get but because my overriding memory from the previous one was that cunt Boris Johnson and the other cunt Rishi Sunak using it as a means to promote themselves and the Tory party. I've had enough of seeing the shower of bastards wearing those little NHS badges as if they care when in reality, they couldn't give a single fuck about it. IMO, these applause events should be a show of strength that we want them at the very least given the correct PPE and testing to protect themselves to protect us. To end on a positive note, if it wasn't for the NHS and the team at Broadgreen Heart & Chest dept, chances are my dad would either be dead or wouldn't have long left. The NHS is one of the very few things that make living in this fucking country bearable.

    China Crisis

Sorry to anybody who thought this was going to be about the synth band formed in Kirkby in the late 70s. How are things going move forward with China given all the shit that's happened lately ? In the last year alone, we've had the Hong Kong protests and the Covid virus. Then at a time when the whole worlds eyes are on them, they go and create another situation that has people flocking to the streets in protest again. Added to that, they're not being cooperative in helping to find out just exactly where and how this virus started and their human rights record is questionable to say the least. I've just had sky news on and I'm sure one of the stats they put out was, China is responsible for 60% increase in CO2 emissions since Greta Thunberg has been alive. It went on to say they're building the equivalent of one coal fired energy plant per week. Did I mishear it as surely to fuck that can't be right ? It just feels like China is taking the same stance as Putin and to an extent Trump in that they just don't give a fuck what the rest of the world thinks and they'll do what the fuck they want. We're in no position to hold China to account as they've got so much money invested in the UK. It looks like China and the USA are headed towards a cold war and we're likely to be caught in the middle of it.

Thank you for the well reasoned reply. To clarify, I'm far from an anti vaxer. I'm just a little uncomfortable with the labeling/taging/listing of people who for whatever their reasons, decide not to get the jab.

Yeah, fucking great that. Why not give them all a bell while your at it. Wonder how the millions of immigrants living below the radar in Europe on shite wages, doing the worst jobs and living in some of the poorest conditions are going to be given access to the vaccine ?

An Education 4/10 It's based on the true story of 16 year old Lynn Barber in 1960s London. It comes across as silly school girl gives up on her education plans as she's swept of her feet by a wealthy man twice her age and is also given the consent to go for it by both her parents. Maybe it's was an era thing but I don't think the same situation would be seen in the same light if it happened today.
