You actually did speak with that logic when you said this is their land. Of course Muslims in the UK are not trying to ethnically cleanse the native population, yet, will that be the same when their population is not the 13% or so it is now but is 30 to 40% which demographically is inevitable.
The conflict is absolutely religious, this is from a hadith “The Hour will not begin until you fight the Jews, until a Jew will hide behind a rock or a tree, and the rock or tree will say: ‘O Muslim, O slave of Allah, here is a Jew behind me; come and kill him" and this is part of the Hamas charter.
The 2002 Arab Peace proposal could have been a good starting place for negotiations however the Passover massacre which took place the day before the initiative was published probably didn't help things. It was met with some opposition from some Arab states and the majority of the Hamas leadership rejected it so I can't see how that would have made much of a difference.
It is clear who wants peace and that's Israel. This 2014 interview with the son of a Hamas leader show's they certainly don't https://x.com/CatchUpFeed/status/1711808433794810070?s=20
It's a mess and without removing the extremists from both sides I cannot see how to solve it.
