It is a bit silly to be honest. A couple of years ago a player ( Zvereva I think ) was the world number 1 going in to the US Open & got beat 6-0 6-1 by one of the Williams'.

 

I suppose it is awkward at present as the Williams have had a lot of injury breaks and also can't be arsed with a lot of the tournaments, so explains why Serena was ranked 28 for this one.

 

Very true but didn't Serena cut her foot on some glass and gthen got a blood clot on one of her lungs? She had to have a time out during the game as her left foot was bothering her again. Can't see her lasting much longer if that foot isn't taken care of, and as much as a like a nice round arse on a bird she has to shift some timber.
