Cause she won piss easy contests that the then higher ranked players didn't take part in. I don't think she's even made the final of a grand slam. Rankings are a joke. worse than FIFA's England 4th in the world!

 

It is a bit silly to be honest. A couple of years ago a player ( Zvereva I think ) was the world number 1 going in to the US Open & got beat 6-0 6-1 by one of the Williams'.

 

I suppose it is awkward at present as the Williams have had a lot of injury breaks and also can't be arsed with a lot of the tournaments, so explains why Serena was ranked 28 for this one.
