Looks like Alonso is out but the others can start.

Xabi Alonso is unlikely to face Stoke City this weekend despite returning to training after a foot injury, Rafa Benitez today confirmed.

The Spain midfielder required seven stitches after coming off at half-time during last weekend's FA Cup clash with Preston.

Alonso is now back on the training ground but the nature of his injury means he cannot yet wear football boots.

Benitez told Liverpoolfc.tv: "He was training. We'll have to decide later today but I don't think he'll be in the squad, so we are looking at the next game.

"It's not a question of him not being able to train - he can work hard and do almost everything. The problem is that he can't wear the boots at the moment. He's been training in trainers."

Meanwhile, Benitez revealed Fabio Aurelio, Martin Skrtel and Fernando Torres were all fit enough to start at the Britannia Stadium after lengthy lay-offs.

The Anfield boss believes the trio's return will keep everyone in his squad on their toes.

He explained: "They can play. It depends on the other players but all three could start.

"The competition for each position is good for the team. These are good players and big names, so the other players have to work really hard if they want to stay in the team.

"That is the difference between now and other seasons - we can change players without changing the level of the team."

Benitez confirmed he had no other injury worries as Liverpool look to go six points clear on Saturday.

Nothing as of yet. If it's true though, i'm glad. Fuck Fergie - I hope Rafa gets right involved in the mind games and beats the cunt at his own game.

That doesn't sound like Rafa, he's 'usually' pretty careful about what he says. Look forward to reading it.

He started with commenting on Fergusons comments on that Liverpool lack the experience to stay in the title race, saying he wont get involved in any mind games.

He then tore into Ferguson for complaining about the fixture list, saying the only way to make Ferguson happy was having a meeting at his office, letting him decide. He also blasted Ferguson ( and the PL ) allowing Ferguson as the only manager to follow the referee into the dressing room both at half time and full time having a go without consequences, before ending with...This isn`t mind games. These are facts.

There were more...this is from the top of my head.

Fucking get in Rafa. You are the man.

When Rafa complained about too many 12:45 kick offs after midweek CL games, Fergie said something about Rafa. When Mourinho complained about the same thing, Fergie said something about it too saying the fixtures are fair and that Maureen was just nit-picking.

Now the old whiskey nose is complaining about the same fucking thing.

Go Rafa.

We have already dropped 2 points against Stoke this season, for some reason I just cant see us dropping another 2 or 3 tomorrow.

Hopefully Torres will start, apart from that he can field whatever team he likes, I just cant see anything else than a win in this one.
