Actually, I've never understood that expression. 'Dropping like flies.' A bit randomly?

 

In 1843 a cider distillery in Bridgwater, Somerset pioneered the use of open chimneys during the fermentation process. (This speeds it along, and gives scrumpy it's "unique" flavour).

 

Unfortunately the fumes that were given off were slightly toxic, and in addition to turning the locals into inbred yokels (as anyone who has been to Bridgwater will testify), it also had a devastating effect on the local wildlife, with insects falling from the sky like rain - hence the expression "Dropping like flies".

 

This was a public service announcement.

 

 

 

 

 

Not to mention utter shite, apart from the bit about Bridgwater folk being inbred oiks with more pubs per square mile then anywhere else in the UK.
