Evra accuses Suarez of racism

Liverpool should take this directly to a proper court of law. The fucking FA seem to be favouring the word of one man over another. The FA's evidence will have to be absolutely rock solid for any court to uphold this 'charge'.

The fact that it has taken them this long to bring a charge suggests that this is by no means a clear cut case. But it does allow the media and other fans to declare open season on Suarez. So it is in the player's interest that the club ready themselves for further legal action in this matter.

The leaks over the past few days can only have been coming from the FA or Manchester United and would suggest that the FA's relationship with the Old Trafford crew does not represent any neutrality in this matter.

This is the FA here, they don't exactly funtion under PACE regulations.

Like I said the board members get a day out.

But any decent laywer/QC whatever will run rings around this charge.

Whats that QC who represented the club in the High Court last year doing?

The Fa have charged him over the use of the word 'negrito', the club and Suarez will prob not dispute this but argue context in regards his nationality and the way it is used in his own language. Terry is bound to get charged has he has also admitted using a 'racist' phrase, again its the context to be argued about. Ferdinands evidence will be vital in the Terry case, if he doesnt get charged ill be amazed.

If Evra is standing in a room of footballers and someone asks who he is, then would it be racist to say "the little black man over there"?

No, it wouldn't because that is an acceptable way of describing someone in our society. If you said "that shortarse nigger" then it would. Clearly then, social context plays a part.

In "latin" societies, "negrito" is an acceptable term, not only for descriptive purposes but for messing around and a bit of banter.

So when Dani Pacheco calls Thiago Whotsisname "negrito" on twitter, is it racist? Clearly not. They are mates.

This is why I think it is impossible to prove racism here.

At the worst, you can say that Suarez should take more care of what he says when he is addressing someone from a different culture. But how is he to know that in advance?

I suspect they have charged him so that they can be seen not to be sweeping it under the carpet but will come to a not guilty verdict on the grounds of cultural context.

Suarez and Evra aren't 'mates' though. They're not even colleagues and don't play on the same team. I think this is going to be more troublesome as the FA will clearly want to be seen as if they are taking action. Hopefully, that FA action will be against John Terry who is clearly a racist, as are a proportion of a certain plastic flag-waving fan base.
