In addition, you want Boys of Summer by Don Henley, Run to You - by Brian Adams, Jack and Diane by John "Cougar" Mellencamp and some Bruce for a bit of 80's Americana

You also need some movie music. Training Montage/No Easy Way Out from Rocky IV and Glory of Love (Peter Cetera) from Karate Kid II.

Does this person actually exist? I thought it was one of those strange words that cropped up now and again that you don't understand so just skim-read over.

Like Motley Crue. (Can anyone actually name a song by them)

And for Stan Ridgway, that was some call, Plev.

It's Immaterial - Driving Away From Home

Cameo - Word Up

Eurthymics - Sweet Dreams

Talk Talk - Life's What You Make It

You wouldn't believe how many of these I have on 7".

Some crackers here. And two I have never heard of (I didn't think that would ever happen).

But WHAT is that Status Quo song doing there. That little "pause" before the final ".....now" in the chorus makes me want to punch somebody.

"They say we're crayza" - Grace, what happened!?

PS Sorry, I see I pinched your It's Immeterial.

Faith - George Michael

We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off - Jermaine Stewart

Everything Michael Jackson did in the 80's

Loads more, but I can't be arsed.

They're 80's aren't they? The status quo one, I was at Bisley with the army and that, 19 and camouflage were played non stop in the bar each night. The two you picked out are not exactly my favorites but that wasn't the point of the thread I thought.

Memories of the 80s:

Used to pump gas as a teenager and when this one came on the radio I'd sing the chorus as 'Fuck the gas bar'

Took my first love to this film (John Hughes=legend) and then went and had a fantastic snog session after. Next film I took her too was Blue Velvet. No snog session after that. Also too her to see Witness. Relationship didn't last long and burning the front end of a cottage down didn't help matters either.

The Montreal Expos baseball team traded for a player named Al Oliver and would play this song when he first came to the team. Until someone pointed out the N word in it. (Al Oliver is black)

My favourite Bowie song. (Not a big Bowie fan)

Always liked this song and Squeeze and Paul Carrick (sp?) came out with 'Don't Shed a Tear' my future wife and I were listening to the radio and her ex requested this song dedicating it to us. (Back in the 80s we listened to radio alot)

Those are all great songs. I'd set myself a rule though which was one song by each artist. I was allowing myself a bit of leeway with solo efforts and collaborations though.

Jim, what kind of mood were you looking for?

Its a hard mood to describe as it so personal. Definitely early to mid 80s rather than the more modern feeling stuff that came at the end of the decade like early manchester (Joy division and New order are in though). It is stuff that takes me back. mainly stuff i heard off my 6 years older sister.

I am gutted that rip it up is not on spotify as that was one of the ones that perfectly summed it up.

I am in no way trying to create the perfect 80s compilation as that is almost impossible.

If anyone is interested in seeing it (hope this works)

spotify:user:redinsweden:playlist:7Jo0hIdIGiEKReO5IljvDq

or (as i am not sure which one to use)

Playlist by redinsweden - Spotify

It isn't quite finished, probably never will be. It is mainly goth/indie and classic 80s like Duran Duran with a couple of pure pop thrown in. And DS, Take on Me, oh yes, I went there. None of your purism in my list, that track deserves a place.

I was actually in the process of writing my list up when you posted your tunes Mr Sex, we have remarkably similar taste when it comes to 80's music (I especially loved The Mission and can't believe I fogot to put one of their efforts on my list). I also like tits and fanny, so we may be distantly related, duly repped for impeccable taste.
