Klopp: Alonso is the stand-out in the next generation of managers

I think any manager would expect more from Liverpool than they would Leverkusen.

Leverkusen was Alonso's first true managerial gig, whilst he was promising I don't think top clubs were lined up for him. Now he will likely have a choice of suitors he'd be daft not to take into account what that club offers him in terms of resources, especially if he's moving to a more competitive league. He's not daft.

Agreed - and of course they would have, as Klopp had more at his disposal than at Dortmund.

That said Xabi - or any incoming manager - shouldn't expect a heck of alot more here than what we have already seen. That's just reality.

Fact is we should expect him to be able to succeed in our system otherwise we shouldn't consider him. Same goes if he feels he needs a bunch of incomings to compete - he should swerve LFC.

We better make a move soon as Tuchel is gonna be gone by the end of the week.

Unlikely to make a difference, he's not leaving Leverkusen 8 points clear in the league so either Bayern appoint a permanent manager now and are out of the running entirely or they appoint an interim and it's the same as if Tuchel saw it out until the end of the season.

You see, this is why I worry. Klopp was absolutely perfect for FSG as he could attract players who may have gone elsewhere for extra money or whatever, which was the opposite of Rodgers. If Xabi was prepared to do that then fair enough, but not many managers are when the playing field is nowhere near level. It's hard going and Klopp has performed near miracles achieving what he has. The team spirit we have is worth 10 points a season at least.

Xabi could look at the Premier league see city and think its a thankless task. Who knows, he could see it as the ultimate challenge and he will learn more that will push him even further and make him a more complete manager further into his career.

Anyone after Klopp is a downgrade but with Xabi it will feel almost like an exciting new chapter, with anybody else it's going to feel like damage limitation even if none of that's true.

A perfectly understandable worry.

Not every manager thrives fighting with one hand tied behind his back. And of course not all are interested in being a chequebook manager either, so hopefully we can offer Xabi something in between.

I just hope FSG have learnt from Klopp and their managerial choices are on an upward spiral.

I would be amazed if Alonso wouldn't want to test himself against guardiola, even if the deck is loaded in city's favour.

This was always foreseeable. The "I Drink Your Milkshake" from There Will Be Blood strategy. When there's a threat to their dominance they just slurp it up and take it for themselves. Strengthens their own position and decimates the only team that could live with them temporarily.

Hopefully we're far enough along with Alonso for it to be moot. But then again you'd hope he doesn't see himself as the guy who just steers the team that wins everything by default 90% of the time. Like Guardiola does.
