He should be applauded for going to Chelsea instead of us the useless fucker.

Sarcastic applause like when you're in a bar and someone makes a tit of themselves by dropping some glasses and everyone stops to take the piss and laugh at them.

I know Robertson and Trent are the established full-backs, but I don't think Gomez and Bradley should be straight back on the bench for this one.

Gomez has been playing that inverted role from LB and, while he lacks Trent's vision and passing range, he helps solidify that midfield.

If Trent is available he plays. Simple as that.

I think if Gomez can handle the workload and the sports science people don't think he's about to get injured, you start him against both Chelsea and Arsenal. Robertson has been out for a long time and there's a sharpness concern there. It also changes us tactically if Robertson plays as opposed to Gomez, and we look comfortable with what we're doing right now.

Trent has been out for far less time so there is not the same worry there.

I won't be shocked for robbo to get tonight and Gomez back for sunday. He's played a lot of football and has often struggled with injuries, so they'll want to protect him I reckon.

Not sure how Chelsea will line up Palmer whether wide right or central. Either way he's around Virgil or Gomez and I'd be happy with that. Gomez took care of Saka in the cup so I think he should start both. Trent starts any game he's available for

Could be right. Personal opinion is Gomez will play through these 2 big games and then Robbo comes back.

Has anyone watched a match on their phone before? (And I don’t mean Chinese tourists in the main stand.) Would Footybite work or could anyone recommend any other apps/ sites?

I need a back up plan as it starts at 1.45am where I am.

Fair shouts on the fullbacks.

Gomez's role changes when Trent plays though. The latter becomes the inverted RB and Gomez goes back to just covering the left flank. He's so one-footed it leaves us with no proper penetrative width from our fullbacks. I think that has a knock-on effect for the forwards.

Bradley's play complements Gomez, much like Robertson's to Trent - one running the line and able to go on the outside, while the other drifts in and plays the ball more laterally, adding a body to midfield.

I actually think that's a good thing for these 2 games. Let Gomez defend Saka and Palmer.

That's a good point, did not think of that.

Lots of decent discussion and acknowledgement of different opinions about fullbacks on this page. You're all fucking wrong and we should start Trent in midfield, Gomez at CB and convert Szoboszlai and Jones in to wing backs.

I've used this quite often, just as part of my research before reporting to the fuzz.

I watched the second half of last season's goalless dreckfest against these bums on my phone.

That was fun.
