Why are so many hurricanes named after women? Because at first they're warm, wet and wild but in the end, they take your house and your car and leave you with nothing. Why are others given men's names then? In terms of naming hurricanes, the adopted system is to go in alphabetical order and then alternate between male and female names. That's why we are seeing Harvey, Irma, Jose and Katia in that order. The next one of those will probably be called Larry, Leonard or Lionel.

 

Incidentally, what are the odds on Trump calling Hurricane Jose the worst of all purely on account of having a Hispanic name?
