Oh, there once was a hero named Ragnar the Red,

Who came riding to Whiterun from ole Rorikstead

And the braggart did swagger and brandish his blade,

As he told of bold battles and gold he had made.

But then he went quiet, did Ragnar the Red,

When he met the shield-maiden Matilda, who said;

"Oh, you talk and you lie and you drink all our mead,

Now I think it's high time that you lie down and bleed!"

And so then came clashing and slashing of steel,

As the brave lass Matilda charged in, full of zeal.

And the braggart named Ragnar was boastful no more-

When his ugly red head rolled around on the floor!

He's a £4m bargain bucket buy squad filler. I dont think he's up to PL standard. It looks like Klopp's preferred cb partnership is Matip and Lovren if he can get them both fit and on the park at the same time so Im not holding my breath for another big money centre back signing.

Klavan is first back up at centre half and as such is a mile below the standard needed.

If Lovren was first back up to two better ones and Klavan was 4th then fair do's - but that isn't the case...it needs to be something we work towards.

Got to get out of this notion that players not good enough to start are ok as 3rd 4th or 5th choice.

What happens is they inevitably get called upon and surprise surprise theyre shit.

Not good enough=not good enough.

Looking back through this thread has reminded me that Klavan has had some good games. The last couple he's been iffy, no doubt about it, but that's not the whole picture.

For me we need three central defenders of a high enough quality that we don't skip a beat when one of them is out. Klavan is not that. He's a fourth choice, and if Gomez kicks on he can displace him.

We still need a Sakho replacement, assuming he isn't coming back.
