Is Rodgers becoming a laughing stock?

We may get the magic "53 look how much we have improved" bollocks' date=' but in this game, points do not make prizes.

Cup finals and European league places do, all of which we are out of, or will be out of at the end of the season, because I personally can not see us making the last spot up for grabs.

Even if we win a few, the four above us will not drop enough points for us to slip in.

But then 53 points is so important isnt it?

I would love to say I give BR all my support, but in all honesty, its a hard thing to do when you see where we are, and what little we have achieved.

On BR and the "he is the manager of LFC he should have our backing, whilst I agree in principle, I think the difference these days is down to a couple of things.

In the past, our managers were brought from within, and therefore had our backing by right, nowadays, we hire in from outside, and as such, I dont think the same rules apply.

I personally do not have the same desire to give my full support to a man I have no connection to, without him earning it a little first.

Where as in the past, I had grown up watching them play or who were part of the management team.

More so, given he is a nobody in a position reserved for those who have earned the right to be there.

GH and Rafa, both had pedigree, as well as a likeability/charismatic disposition, call it what you will.

I just dont get that with BR, I dont buy into his trying to model us on another team (Barca or whoever he dreams of this week) what happened to LFC?

I said before in another thread, its all well and good playing a certain style, but you have to have the players to play it, you cant just make a team suddenly play a way that doesnt suit them, (Clough at Leeds) you play a way that the players you have can play, and adjust to suit as you buy players in.

BR has gone straight out on a marathon with sprinters, and sadly forgot about the hurdles.

We should be modelled on LFC, not some fantasy from a man who no more deserves the right to be where he is, than he does the full support of a fan base who have been fed shit for far too long, and who deserve a lot better than we have had for the last god knows how long either.

Our down fall was being sold to yanks, the last lot and the current.[/quote']

I agree with everything bar the last line. Our problem has been our shocking deals in the transfer market.

For too long now we've been far too hit and miss with our signings. That has been our biggest down fall.

The likes of Neil ruddock, Julian dicks Nigel clough, Stan Collymore, el hadj diouf, Alberto aquilani, Paul konchesky, Andy Carroll, fabio borini, Joe Allen to name but a few. All big money signings, and all equally big failures. That's been our biggest stumbling block.

I don't really worry about the idea of having a big turnover of managers if those managers are wrong for the club. The club was pretty stable until Moores and Parry unleashed a chain of events so shit that Paddy Crerand with a ouija board couldn't have done better. Rafa and Houllier had reasonably long stints by today's standards and were undone by extreme circumstances, one by health and one by for mentioned cataclysmic shit off the pitch, although for my money they were both at the end of their respective roads anyway.

IMO none of Hodgson, Dalglish or Rodgers should have been appointed anyway, and the way their tenures have gone/are going could not really have surprised many. Changing managers isn't the issue, appointing the wrong people for the wrong reasons is.

I'm also nowhere near as certain the yanks will be persevering with Rodgers. Let's not forget this was a gamble for them, they wanted him to work under an experienced man and he wouldn't have it, they've gone out on a limb - also, American corporate culture in any field simply does not tolerate failure, the dollar is the bottom line and as far as they're concerned he's had plenty.

The fact remains we've beaten nobody of note, we're mid-table, out of the cups, out of Europe, making noises about not wanting to be in Europe. That's all pretty fucking shit no matter how anyone chooses to redefine the word 'progress'.

Good points, well made.

Swansea, which made him, had the foundations laid by Martinez. I am not knocking what he achieved in South wales, he won promotion and kept them up. But he has no experience of a total rebuild job- amybe he will get it right first time? Bur managing LFc is a hell of a work experience position.

Which is why we're all wasting our time wondering if Rodgers needs a second season or if we should find another manager. Ayre will crank up the propaganda, we might even get some encouraging words from Werner. All this will lead to is Rodgers staying firmly planted in his job.

Much as we might want something else, he is safe because no matter how poor we might be, there are always another 8 or 9 teams in this league that will be worse.

Expectations will be managed and the lemons will be squeezed. I don't see it ever getting any better with these owners but under different ones it could get a lot worse. At least we're a top 4 team when it comes to ticket prices, we do at least have that.

Tom "i dont wanna" Werner.

I expect you are right but hope you are wrong.

I also hope FSG are learning with each season that passes and seeing the error of their ways.

Its frightening thought that Rodgers has spent so much more than Moyes and purely on ordinary players,in general. I believe a better manager would have brought in better players too.

As for sacking managers on a yearly basis,im not that bothered if the current manager is not doing as well as he should.

If paying off Rodgers takes 8 million and it prevents him buying the likes of Ashley Williams,I think its money well spent.

And we'd have change from what he'd pay for him too.

I think if the only thing stopping managers from being sacked is what other people might think of us, then that's pretty sad.

The money we've blown on manager pay offs and back room staff, coupled with poor purchases is scandalous too. At what point do you stop a manager that you don't think is going to cut it, do you let him carry on spending? Rodgers had 7 of his signings in the Reading team when he was manager and he still couldn't get them to play football the way he wanted so was sacked.

My fear with him is allowing him to carry on until we really are Swansea, because that is where I believe he is taking us. I fear who FSG would replace him with though, I firmly believe as soon as the final whistle goes on this season the propaganda machine will go in to overdrive in support of their man.

The dismal truth is he isn't going anywhere and under FSG neither are the club.

Dave, i agree with your points regarding the propaganda machine that's clearly about to come out. But i dont see how you can lay so much blame at fsg?

Granted their not sheik mansour. But they have spent 100 million on players since they came in. I don't know the exact figures, but id hazard a guess only Chelsea and maybe city have out spent us since they took over. That, Imo is good ownership. It's the managers that have fucked up.

It's more that they haven't got a clue, they appoint a salesman as CEO, a novice as manager. From top to bottom it's very poor. Appointing a top footballing man as soon as they arrived would possibly have stopped the disastrous events we have witnessed. Instead they only have ears for fucking idiots.

I agree with the appointments alright. I know where you're coming from.

I thought the idea last summer of getting a director of football was a solid idea. But when they caved in for Brendan Rodgers, i genuinely couldn't believe it.

Ok, say it was mourinho, you'd say, "ok, he's a proven winner, we'll let him do it has way". But letting some no mark manager dictate to his would be bosses was quite scandalous I have to admit

Unfortunately the lessons they are learning might not be what you might hope.

Windfall growth in sponsorship and TV deals will have boosted revenues by around £40m since they bought the club. That increases the value of the club.

Lerner spent over £100m at Villa to crash and burn. I think they are perfectly happy to take their chances with Rodgers without substantial investment in the team, or stadium.

I reckon Rodgers talks about footy the way Bruce Lee talked about Kung Fu, and considers things like holding midfielders as part of 'the old ways'.

Now you put football in a cup, it becomes the cup; You put football into a bottle it becomes the bottle; You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now football can flow or it can crash.

Haha he does too. I've watched interviews with Bruce lee and as much as I admire him I've thought he's so full of bollocks, good job he can fight.

Oh, it isn't random criticism it's a top level ignorance that you display, coated in an arrogance that stems from the anonymity that you take advantage of.

Don't take it as some sort of victory that your puke is impossible to reason with.

I'd rather mock your disabilities.

Being honest and saying it how it is isn't being arrogant or ignorant, fucking hate arrogant people, im certainly not one.

Sorry that the truth hurts so much that you can't acknowledge it.
