All my mates that played to a decent standard in Devon hated Somerset and constantly slagged them off for being a closed shop and picking mates sons rather than on ability.

 

Didn't find that at all. The best players in our first team got games for their seconds, and a couple for the first team. I've no doubt that a few private schools got preferential treatment, but that won't be any different anywhere else. In fact it was much worse for Devon. When I used to play for the youth teams it was basically me, one other lad, and a gang of the most hateful posh cunts you could imagine.

 

I really don't think they're any different to any other county side now where most of the squad gets turned over every 4/5 years (it's part of the reason I care less and less about the county game).
