The other thing that blinds people when it come to J.B was how much better he was than everyone else in Division 1 in 1989. He was up against bums like Tony Daley, Kevin Sheedy and Ruel fox, no fucker was worth the steam of his piss.

Torres, Owen and Fowler (even Keegan for most in that 1 up top)..... fuck me they (formation permitting) don't make our best sides. As heartbreaking as it is it makes you thankful.

Sheedy was a very good player. He's one we had a few regrets over letting go. In a differently set up midfield he'd have had a future at the club.

Just to add to Barnes brilliance,it didn't stop when he moved to central midfield either. He was virtually impossible to dispossess even in a crowded midfield. His problem wasn't down to his lack of pace it was the quality of the average players alongside side him there.

No, just can't see that mate and I loved Mane. 

 

4 years at his peak on the left wing is hardly a hot spell, we can judge Barnes ability over that period. And it's a bit unfair to use the european ban against Barnes.

I’ve been firmly in the Clemence camp until the last year or so but it’s a close call if we’re discounting jerseys.
