The Godfather

What is there to say, absolute class and each time I go back, I seem to notice something different each time.

The christening scene still being one of cinemas most powerful ever filmed.

11 Nigel Tufnel’s, out of 10 Marty DiBergi’s

FYI: The Godfather part II, on tonight. Get in.

Holiday on the Busses.

Don't know why but I watch this every Christmas. It's really dated and not even very funny.

4/10 (I'll still watch it again next year).

There's a scene at Dyserth Waterfall which always makes me smile. Mad to think that the camp they filmed it at is gone too (Tower Holiday camp in Rhyl, last thing filmed there was a scene for a dystopian series called the last train, perfect setting as it was falling apart at the time).

It was actually Prestatyn Pontin's, which amazingly has only just closed down- https://www.rhyljournal.co.uk/news/23508919.prestatyn-event-mark-50-years-since-holiday-buses-filming/

Barry Keough is excellent (as always) in this creepy cracker.

Scousers 1 v inbred Tory cunts 0

Still think his performance in Banshees of Inisherin should have bagged him an Oscar. He's a top talent and he'll be playing various roles for generations to come.

Iron Sky

B-movie nonsense (about a secret Nazi moonbase) and I hoped it would be fun and enjoyable on those terms.

It wasn't.

It's an absolute fucking mess.  At times it tries to be clever and self-aware (with little visual nods towards Downfall and Dr Strangelove); at times it tries to be an action thriller; at times it tries to be true to its nature as B-movie nonsense; at times it (very mistakenly) tries to be a social and political satire.  The result is unwatchable. Imagine Sharknado stripped of the little wit, charm and humour it possesses (and with no Tara Reid).

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt1034314/

There's a sequel in which the moon Nazis are joined by an alien race of shape-shifting reptiles and an army of dinosaurs.  I might not even bother with that.

I think the premise of a Nazi base on the moon should have been just a hint of what was to come.

Booksmart - 9/10. Absolutely sensational coming-of-age comedy. The only reason it’s not a ten is that it slightly lacks the endlessly quotable lines for me that the great comedies all have. Still brilliant though and completely rewatchable.

The Pope’s Exorcist. Almost unbearably bad. Russell Crowe speak half decent Italian, and seem to enjoy himself, and Franco Nero is the pope. The rest of the actors are irritating or incompetent, and the film can’t make up its mind if it wants to be some kind of buddy comedy or «scary». Feels as if they wanted this to be the start of a franchise, with new exorcisms around the world for every film… One would assume the power of Christ compels them not to. 2/10 cocks in hell.

Batman Forever.

Not seen this for years. Watched it with the kids, fuck me - it looks like a 90s R&B video most of it & Tommy Lee Jones must have been on enough charly to sink a boat here.

Having said all that, it was worth watching purely for Nicole Kidman.

They wanted to watch it as we watched the 1989 Batman last time they stayed & Batman Returns wasn't on the Firestick. My suggestion of watching Driller Killer was vetoed.

I'm looking forward to explaining the nipples in Batman & Robin in the near future.

Midnight Express

10/10. One of the greats.

10 non-conjugal visits out of 10.

Whenever I read about someone being caught smuggling drugs, I always think "Have they not seen the first 15 mins of Midnight Express?"  The anxiety it induces is off the scale.  No chance.

If ever I have to board a plane from the runway I'm always clocking for police.

The Lodge.

Film added to Netflix this week. It was listed on some YouTube video the other day,  sonething like Top 10 horror films that are under the radar, I'd had seen most of them but not this so even I noticed it on Netflix last night I thought I'd watch it.

Under the radar because it's not very good. Completely implausible and more fool me for sticking to end in the hope there was some good twist to redeem it.

There wasn't.

4/10. Only watch if you're wanting to see Elvis Prestley's granddaughter's boobs.

Rebel Moon - got three quarters of the way through and had to turn it off. It's like watching the cinematic from a war hammer or Star Wars game.

Shite.

Just watched it. Even after a terrible review from @AnubisI couldn't believe anything that cost that much money could be so bad.

Let's be fair, the effects are first class. That's it though. What a fucking mess. Shite on every other level.
