Hope you both have an awesome day Roy is not a test match batsman. Its a fucking disgrace that he's been picked in this test match and put down the batting order just to accommodate him & Denly pushed up to open. Both aren't good enough imo but its shows how much favouritism is going on in english cricket that Roy is given so many chances despite his clear & obvious flaws in basic batting technique at test level. Jobs for the boys yet again. The english selectors are clueless at test match level Its going to be a tough morning tomorrow with the new ball due soon. Stokes, Bairstow & Butler need to step up and get us past 300 so we're not following on & should we achieve that the Test match should be a draw. Root or Burns when in needed to make a big hundred, so far that is the difference between the teams. They were unable too while Smith filled his boots. IMO Root has really regressed as a batsman in recent years

I thought I'd seen everything in cricket after the World Cup final but today was something else. What an innings by Stokes. Probably the greatest test innings by an English batsmen of all time. Just incredible. What an end to the test match as well. Missed run out, and not out decision that a review would have overturned had they not wasted it earlier on an obvious not out. I thought we were on for an all out before lunch when Root stupidly gave his wicket away. Bairstow gave the innings impetuous and after that it was all Stokes. Just shows that giving yourself time & playing yourself in often reaps huge rewards. Obviously this was a crazy, mental innings but he did the hard work last night & first thing this morning.

    The Amazon is Burning

The Brazilian PM needs shooting. All loggers & farmers as well & all the cows. Tough shit if beef prices escalate. Maintaining the rainforest isn't an option it needs restoring to a hundred years ago. I read that a Swedish millionaire bought a load of land to protect from deforestation. Cost him about £15m. That's pocket change to the world's billionaires. Buy the land you twats & re plant trees.

Root needs binning as a captain. He's absolutely fucking awful. Its not surprising England have been bowled out for under 100 so many times with him as captain. He just doesn't give a shit

    Other Football - 2019/20

United's back 5 on paper should be decent but Chelsea found absolutely loads of space in attack. Pedro kept making the wrong decision & the youngsters look decent up until the final 3rd then toothless. Had they have had Hazard & Higuain they would have scored 3 or 4 today. Chelsea were missing some players but they looked naive as if the manager was an inexperienced idealist. Good win for United unfortunately but their whole attacking play seems to rely on a give & go pass and use their pace. Chelsea's defensive high line & an awful performance from Zouma played into their hands. They could struggle against teams that sit deeper & try to hit them on the break.

Still a way to go but Ireland are my favourites for the World Cup. Their club game is in a strong position providing good depth to the national team & they have a single mindedness that England had in 2003 in how to win games. England should have beaten NZ last week but contrived to throw it away and also make stupid decisions in the last 2 minutes to throw it wide rather than keep it central for the drop goal. NZ finally look like a team that has lost its aura. Drain of the talent pool to the riches in Europe hasn't helped them but its the worst/most vulnerable All Black team in a decade. They are still a very good team & have some outstanding individuals but as a team they don't look as formidable. South Africa look to have got their shit toghether & they are a excellent team again. Pity De Klerk hasn't been allowed to play in the autum internationals as he was arguably the player of the tournament in the recent rugby championship. Australia look ordinary but always raise their game in tournament format. Looking forward to the 6 nations (bar the Italy games) as the level should be at its highest.

    Sharks (and all things oceany)

Its quite surprising that a number of White Sharks are still so far north as winter approaches. Watched a fair few programmes on the Atlantic Great Whites and they thought they travelled north to Massachusetts etc in the summer & went south to the Florida & the gulf in winter

    Ryder Cup 2018 Paris

Thought the course setup was exceptional. The rough was a proper hazard and I loved how much the water came into play. Adds that extra bit of drama. Made up for Molinari. How many players have won all 5 points. What a season it has been for him. Same applies to Tommy Fleetwood. Shame he couldn't quite replicate his pairs form in the singles. Poults & Garcia proved their captain right. Neither have to be in form they always raise their game for the Ryder Cup. Same can't be said of Phil & Tiger. Both pointless & even despite his amazing win last week it wasn't really a surprise. Neither of the Americans 'big two' have ever done that well at the Ryder Cup

Rate the last TV Show you watched

spot on. The Pacific was good but compared to Band Of Brothers it not at that level. Where BOB excelled the Pacific struggled in the individual narrative. That was more down to the style of combat across the Pacific island invasions. It was far more disjointed than the Western Europe campaign. People who watched the Pacific before Band of Brothers rate it higher because the expectation level isn't there. On its own its an excellent series but it doesn't match up well compared with BOB which is the greatest TV series of all time

Root needs someone to give him a good twatting. He constantly gives his wicket away. He's so fucking talented but if he had an ounce of proper application he'd be scoring huge numbers. Its his attitude that constant throughout the batting. There's no fucker that makes the opponent work for his wicket. Thank fuck for the bowlers. Rescued the batsmen for years now

The adventurous style has gotten us to #1 as an ODI team (at the absolute detriment to the test team btw) but we do lack discipline as a team. Hindsight a wonderful thing but Bairstow should have settled down after his 100 & looked to bat out the innings. The bowling from England was shocking though

Wasn't a great game but due to the weather it was always going to be a game of attrition than skill. Personally I think the red was correct but I don't like the new Rugby laws. Yes they are to protect the players but I think they are overly harsh/cautious and has meant far too many games have had red cards in them. It was a cheap shot but Watson did duck down in anticipation of contact. As soon as you do that imo you should risk head/neck contact. Its just all gone a bit soft & safety conscious (same with the NFL) For me its elite level professional sport so the skill, intensity & aggression should be at the max levels. Rugby would be 5 a side with the modern rules played 15 years ago. Probably in a minority on this but I think some of the rule changes have been detrimental to the game. I just hate the way all physical sports have been softened & will continue to be so

Beginning and end to each half the Lions looked like they could match NZ. Between that they were outclassed and out muscled. NZ won the contact area and with their offloading made small but significant gains over the gain line. They always looked like they had an extra gear to go up as well. Lions just didn't get enough possession & territory. Our best moments & the wonderful try cam from deep counter attacks rather than good sustained possession/pressure. The 2 injuries to Smith & Crotty defo disrupted NZ and for a short time it looked like the Lions might get the upper hand but NZ upped their game again after 50 minutes. They needed to score 1st after HT and yet again missed key try scoring chances. A very good 1st test though. Hopefully 2 more cracking games to come

Strange that Daly gets picked in a position that isn't his natural 1st choice. Possible thinking is that he'll come in off his wing a bit more than a usual winger while Williams can/will overlap out wide

Itoje only on the bench for the 1st test. Utterly bizarre decision but then again Gatland needed to pick some more Welsh players. Nothing against AWJ - he's been a colossus for years now but his form of late hasn't been to his usual high standards. Apart from that an interesting selection. Glad he didn't so for the conservative picks of both Sexton & Farrell plus Halfpenny at Full Back. The Lions will need the forwards to dominate and create a platform then use the dangerous runners that have been selected. If they don't they'll be ripped to shreds

Bit of catching up to do. Great game on Saturday night and a superb win against tough opposition and a World Cup group opponent. Lions - superb win v the Crusaders but should have scored at least 2 tries. When it comes to the test matches chances will be few and we will have to take them. Its like watching Scotland a few years ago. Good play up until 5m from the try line, then they somehow mess it up when its actually easier to score. Hopefully that will come but these players at this level should be finishing it regardless of who they are playing with. I also think it has to be Farrell or Sexton. Don't think the team is balanced when both are in the side. They are similar players unlike the differences in Ford & Farrell for England. Still plenty of 'warm up' games to play but very few players at present are automatic picks for me for the tests
