Bundesliga players chose the Zerofivers‘ goalkeeper as second best in the Bundesliga this season
 
Mainz’s outstanding season was recognisable in the results of the annual Kicker players’ survey. The sports magazine’s survey was completed by 235 Bundesliga players.

Who was the best goalkeeper this season?
For this particular question, Loris Karius received 13.6 percent of the vote, placing him second behind Manuel Neuer (23.8 percent) and ahead of Leverkusen’s Bernd Leno (12.8 percent) and Schalke’s Ralf Fährmann (11.9 percent).

Who was the best coach?
Martin Schmidt came sixth overall in this vote, receiving 10.6 percent of the vote. Pál Dárdai won with 17.5 percent of the vote, even though his team finished behind the Zerofivers in the table.

Which club was the surprise package of the season?
Mainz came third in this particular category with 22.1 percent, behind Hertha (31.9 percent) and Darmstadt 98 (23.0 percent).

Good to see he's taken the No1 shirt. If he really has been signed to usurp Mignolet rather than 'provide competition', he'd be the first goalkeeper of ours to be first choice while wearing the No1 shirt since Dudek in 2004/05. Dudek still had the shirt the following year but he was back-up to Reina and not first choice. Since then, we've had Cavalieri and Jones in the No1 shirt and both were definitely back-up goalkeepers.
