Roberto Firmino

Recommended Posts

Neil Ashton in 2015 writing for the fail.

The committee have yet to explain how they came up with the figure of £29million to sign Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino from Hoffenheim, who finished eighth in the Bundesliga last season.

And no he didn’t think it was value for money - what price now (not that any bid should be encouraged!)

The fee was something like £21-22m, with add-ons taking it up to around £29m.

Bobbys fee might well have seemed a gamble back in 2015 but the boy has progressed year on year since Jurgen arrived. It seems a lot of none Liverpool fans do not rate Bobby or at least not yet. Thankfully he never seems to be linked with a move to the usual cohorts and long may that continue.

Shite like Benteke went for £32m the same summer.  Firmino's fee always was and always will be a complete bargain.   The fact we had a self obsessed wanker picking the team at the time doesn't change that in the slightest.

Firmino/Sane/Salah in three summers.

That's how you build a title-contending side.

Just need to freshen them up with a fourth attacking player within shouting distance of their talent, because without meaning to be harsh, Ings and Solanke aren't anywhere near good enough.

Surely we already have that fourth attacking player in Mane?

I still see the hand of Klopp behind this signing

Thought the same thing myself.  I believe we were in touch with Klopps advisors pretty soon after he left Dortmund.

We seriously need to look at securing the signature on e contract extension for Bobby. Besides Salah, all the buildup to the goals and most of the other chances, Firmino has been absolutely instrumental in them.

Insert clauses in their contracts that they must be sold together with a release clause of a £1,000,000,000.

What's that now, 27 goals for our non scoring striker?

Yeah. What we really need is a "traditional #9" though. Like, maybe:

Suarez - 29 goals

Lukaku - 27 goals

Aubameyang - 27 goals (both clubs)

Griezmann - 26 goals

Icardi - 26 goals

Higuain - 22 goals

Dzeko - 21 goals

Vardy - 20 goals

If only Firmino could score enough to be in the bracket with these elite "pure #9" strikers, then we might actually be decent.

Let's get one of those, so he can have a rest now and again.  Our squad is paper thin.

It will be a miracle if the front 3 can stay fit all next season and they will be targeted hard next season too.
