That's the thing - between the months out injued and getting back to sharpness after them, he's not been at his top level all season.  I have all the sympathy in the world for the lad but we've all seen careers like this before and you can't build a side around a player who might be missing for half your games.

I haven't even read about Sturridges injury as he has not been contributing enough since back and when I heard he was injured knew this would be the case for the rest of the season.

Hopefully Sturridges injury is short term but for the game against arsenal I think Sterling is the better option up front right now even if Sturridge was fit, Sterling has been keeping the ball better and linking up well with the ams when played there.

Sterling has played better when up front this season so now is the time for him to step up, hopefully hidgson keeps his word and sends Raheem back to the club after tonight's england game.

Owen, Torres, now Sturridge. Shame but it's another one who's been cut down in his prime.

I'd include Fowler but those others all just strike me as similar in that their pace seems to have played it's part in their undoing.

You have to wonder is sterling going to be worth that much of a gamble of massive wages like we gave sturridge.

He's nothing but a pace merchant and could easily be following the same route in a year or two.

No-one comes close to Sturridge's goal scoring prowess in our squad. Even in his few games in an injury hit season, his goals/games ratio is way above anyone else. Get him out there on the pitch at every opportunity.

The thing that has surprised me in the past couple of months is how much Sturridge has lacked sharpness. Yes he was out injured for much longer than his previous injury spells but he seemed to find his groove very quickly after returning from those injury spells. It looked like he was back in the familiar groove after scoring against West Ham on his return as well as the goal at Palace in the cup, but on the whole he has looked very inconsistent. His touch and decision making has looked suspect on more than one occasion. At Blackburn, his touch let him down quite a bit but the decision making looked much better even though it didn't result in any goals. Maybe it is down to playing in a more familiar system than Liverpool have been playing for the last 4 months, but either way it's a shame that he's picked up another little problem.

The trouble with him is that he picks up far too many of them, and maybe he needs to visit Bayern's team doctor Dr Muller-Wohlfahrt, who sees and treats a number of players from different clubs given that he is a specialist in his field. He has been known to identify the root cause of problems even when they are seemingly unrelated to the main problem, and can recommend a programme that will help Sturridge to rehab, management and remove the root cause of his many muscular problems.

Don't they say the first few games back after injury you get by on a rush of adrenaline, then often fall off again until the sharpness properly returns?

Trouble is if he's going to be injured every season he's not going to be back to full fitness for 6 to 8 games after each injury, and you can't build a team around that.
