So really no idea? It judged seemed negative to mention it.

As much idea as most football fans. Wasn’t meant to be negative. I’m just surprised. Like with Van Dijk.. we famously won the race, against City and Arsenal. With Salah we managed to conclude the deal at cut-price with very little fuss. Salah had good stats for Roma last season too.

To be fair Mo was scoring for Roma and did fly under the radar somewhat. But I guess his recent record of being dumped by mourinho sent on loan to Fiorentina before settling at Roma had something to do with it.

As the story goes, fortunately not below the radar of our scouts who persistently beseeched Klopp to sign him. Well in dem der scouts, is what I say.

He’s a brilliant player. How on earth were we the only club in for him last summer?

We weren't at all. Almost every top club asked about him, but from those willing to make a bid, he chose us.

And the decision was made fairly early after the season ended, if not just before it.

A little like the VVD situation, with the exception that Roma had to sell due to some FFP style situation.

I think the fact that Roma are,or were owned by close associates of FSG might have helped smooth the way for Salah to come to us. We were also an option for him before he went to Chelsea so maybe Salah himself felt a tinge of unfinished business. I'd also like to think that both Klopp helped and footballers pick up the 'welcome to outsiders' mentality that we give off and are renown for. All speculation of course but it would be nice if players considered us a good place to settle their families.

Over on Grand Old Team there is a new thread entitled:

MOHAMMED SALAH EATS BABIES! in which SteveO and DaveK argue that Salah is a typical disgusting Redshite, baby-eating monster who should have his work permit removed and be deported immediately.

Liverpool are set to offer star winger Mohamed Salah a new deal, and have reportedly received encouraging signs.

The 25-year-old moved to Anfield from Roma for £34million last summer and has been an instant success, scoring 31 goals in all competitions.

Real Madrid have been linked with a big-money summer swoop for the Egypt international as president Florentino Perez eyes a squad overhaul.

However, IndyKaila claims that Liverpool will offer the Egypt international a bumper new deal in order to make sure they keep their star man.

It is also claimed that Salah is ‘very happy’ with the club and would be willing to sign a new deal, suggesting negotiations could be concluded fairly swiftly.

“Liverpool to start new contract talks with Mo Salah. The player is very happy at Anfield & is ready to sign a new contract,” IndyKaila tweeted.

Salah could potentially be one of three Liverpool stars to sign new deals, with Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane tipped to extend.
