Inspired by the Metallica thread, seems a surprising amount of people on here dabble in the heavier side of the musical spectrum, which pleases me, so here's a thread to post some of your favourite heavy riffage. Here's a few to start off: Gh1J4rTgVgE Metallica - Cracking cover of Whiskey in the Jar 77f8u7puTFc Pantera - New Level. Supremely heavy metal band. U5IV3AbLBa0 Rancid - Ruby Soho, off the quite outstanding album 'And out come the Wolves'. If you even like this a little, track it down, classic. 56NfNEQlumg Entombed - Out of Hand. Didn't pick this out but saw it as a random associated vid to Pantera. Heard this on some free metal mag C…

Quite a few on here lean left like myself, but it's easy to forget we're very much a minority here in England. Just watched something about the local elections and the Tories have got roughly twice the councils and twice the councillors of Labour. It's also wroth noting that the Tories ruled through some of the toughest years in our lifetime and yet were only ousted by a Labour Government which could best be described as 'Tory light'. Worrying shit. "My boy, we are pilgrims in an unholy land."

They are you know. Useless, brain dead pieces of shit. And I don't care what Law enforcement arse lickers on this forum say. The judicial system needs a serious review after what I seen last night. A lad comes into a pub, walks straight up to the bar and starts launching glasses at the displays. Ruining them, smashing everything up, threatening bar staff and customers. Generally being violent, and he tried to get behind the bar. He leaves. He then comes back later on and smashes the bar up once again, leaves but sneaks back into the toilet and beats one of the customers to a pulp. Hits a girl and has to be restrained. The panic buttons are pressed and then th…

Hello I’ve joined a school reunion WhatsApp group after 40 years. Should be interesting - one of my class mates went to prison for murder in his teens whilst another is now the chairman of a premier league football club.

Currently having a bit of bother with some fucking meff on ebay and tbh, i can't see why he has got a bee in his bonnet. Here is the situation. I advertise 2 pairs of jeans on separate listings with £3.50 post and packaging on each item. This bloke buys both pairs , and to save fucking about i send them in the same package. The twat gets them both very fucking cheap, and then sends me a shitty message telling me that i have to refund him him the postage on one of the items or he will make sure i have a 'very rough ride' . Nowhere did i advertise postage discounts on multiple purchases. If the shithouse had contacted me before buying them, asking if i would disc…

48% of Britons believe that Area 51 exists to investigate aliens and their spaceships. A massive 38% think that 9/11 was orchestrated by the US government. And 35% believe that the Apollo landing on the Moon was a hoax. A suspicious 32% are convinced that Diana, Princess of Wales, and Dodi Fayed were murdered. 25% think the Illuminati and the Masons are trying to take over the world. And would you believe Scientologists rule Hollywood? Well, 17% of those who took part in the survey would. Big Brother is watching - and 7% believe that barcodes are really intended to control people. And 6% are convinced that Microsoft sends messages via Wingdings…

Just a little thread for those of us who appreciate stuff at the other end of the scale from the more popular (on here, at least) rock side of things. So, to get us started, Gilles' show this week is a tribute to John Lucien and Max Roach who both died last week. It's jazz-tastic. Nice. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/gillespeterson/index.shtml

I was having a conversation with an old colleague about this a couple of days ago, with the contention being that Iraq and Afghanistan - and the public and political reaction to those wars - have made us soft and unable/unwilling to act against a serious threat like ISIS. With what we have seen in Germany and France, as well as some in the States pledging allegiance to ISIS before gun attacks, and the absolute horror we are witnessing in the Middle East from them, and accepting they are getting wealthier and more powerful despite airstrikes, would you support a multilateral ground attack to clear/kill ISIS fighters? This would be assuming that all diplomatic measures…

It's not yet the twenty five years that most historians say is the minimum amount of time to assess the impact of something, but I was reading her speech from the 1980 Tory conference (in The Guardian's excellent series of the 14 greatest speeches of the Twentieth Century) and it made think about her legacy. I still think she was a spiteful, callous bitch, but I now think many things she did were right: reducing the power of the unions, encouraging home ownership, tackling inflation, privatising some of the national industries. However, I also think she may have fucked us in the process. Her extreme policies made us expect low taxation and she nearly destroyed hea…

How much more misery is going to be heaped on these poor bastards. Awful scenes. BBC News - Haiti earthquake feared to have killed hundreds A 7.0-magnitude quake which hit south of the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince is feared to have killed hundreds of people across the Caribbean country. In the space of a minute, Haiti's worst quake in two centuries wrecked the HQ of the UN mission, the presidential palace and numerous other buildings. A "large number" of UN personnel were reported missing by the organisation. The capital is now said to be in total darkness with many people sleeping outside amid fear of more aftershocks. Describing the earthquake as a "catastro…

Hopefully self explanatory and maybe cathartic. All you have to do is write the word that you struggle to say out loud. I’ll open the batting with “specific” just can’t say it.

I think there needs to be an urgent discussion in society around taxation. I think the whole Tory shit show is based on it, and I think Labour partyly lost the election because of it, and I think it's foremost in people's minds when they discuss or try to understand politics. Many millions of people in this country are being led towards an argument that they are 'taxed too much', and that tax is a waste of money, and needs to be reduced, or even removed. That's not helped by the endless stories of tax evasion, tax avoidance, which used to be the domain of the super rich, but now more and more people are trying to avoid it through crea…

Watched the incredible Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills the other week and it's got me on a real documentary film kick. Probably the greatest I've ever seen was Dear Zachary and there have been some top class BBC docs like The Hunt For Britain's Paedophiles and Nazis: A Warning From History. Currently trying to watch as many as possible (the grimmer the better) so any recommendations?

Love this stuff. For anyone who's interested... relief map of Mars showing Olympus Mons volcano (top left) which is 16 miles high and 374 miles across. The lowest (blue) areas are also where some scientists believe oceans once existed, note the 'inlets' and apparent coastlines. Any more?

Anybody a fan? To clarify, I don't mean badly drawn pictures of The Rock or Michael Barrymore with a stonker on. Proper art. I've gained a bit more appreciation for it in recent times. I'm by no means an art connoisseur, but a fan of stuff by the likes of Klimt, Rothko, Miro, Monet and the classics from the likes of Caravaggio and Velazquez. Also like some Japanese stuff, particularly Hokusai and Hiroshige. Zhong Biao is an interesting modern Chinese artist who does some good stuff with a bit of a Banksy feel to it. And I find the Art Of....(Spain, France, China etc) series of BBC documentaries by Andrew Graham Dixon to be very interesting. Th…
