It's a risk changing the manager without backing the new one sufficiently with funds to enable him to implement his ideas, with the necessary changes in personell. For this reason I've always thought Hodgson was up against it from the start.

He needed to stabilize not rebuild and retrain.

Maxi is a good player in a team that plays and pass and move football. He doesn't fit in with the current philosophy and will not be effective in this team. We may as well stick Babel in that position.

I don't think Hodgson believes Babel can handle the defensive side of the game though. Hence he's pigeon holed him as a striker.

Maxi was asked to reduce the threat of Evra; which he did well. Kept possession well and was generally tidy. Offered little or no attacking threat; but whether that was down to him or our tactics who knows, I'm guessing the later.

Sensible post. Maxi did nothing from an attacking perspective (who did?), but kept the ball and relieved the pressure on our wandering full back.

It's all Hodgson's fault isn't it.

Where have I attributted fualt or blame? My understanding is that Maxi was instructed to keep Evra qiuet, which he did. A pefectly sensible option taken by Roy, given that Evra is probably one of best attacking fullbacks in the world.

Just wish he would take the "shackles" off.

Agreed. All my Chelsea-supporting friends (i know,) tell me that Cole's been half the player he used to be since that long-term injury.

There's a lesson in here somehwere about the age of player we are buying...

I believe we should do the same thing as the Mancs, only buy players under 26, Berbatov being the exception.

I know they're doing it for money reasons, but I still think we should use the same policy.
