A MUM-OF-TWO today praised her “hero” pet dog who rescued her from a man who attacked her in a quiet lane.

Emma Taylor was walking German Shepherd Maggie through woodland near her Bidston home on Tuesday September 7 when she was grabbed by the stranger.

He had asked the 28-year-old for the time before grappling with her and spitting in her face.

Luckily brave Maggie came to her owner’s aid, jumping up at the assailant before locking her jaws onto his arm.

Emma said: “I do not usually walk in areas like that on my own, but there were lots of families around and I had the dog with me, so I thought I would be all right.

“I walked past this man and he asked me if I was all right. I just said ‘yes’ and tried to keep walking, but then he asked me for the time.

“The sun was bright so I had to look at my watch for a while to make it out – and then he grabbed me

“I just froze at first and could not find my voice to call Maggie, but when I did he just laughed at me.

“I think he was expecting a little handbag dog like a Yorkshire Terrier, but then she ran up behind him and jumped up on his back.

“He was not expecting it and it shocked him. Then Maggie grabbed his arm and he fell on the floor.”

Emma managed to escape while three-year-old Maggie struggled with her attacker, who then tried to call his own dog for help.

Emma added: “His dog, which looked like a big woolly bear, ran up and I thought it would attack, but it took one look at Maggie and ran away.

“Then the man said to me ‘just run away – if you look back I will break your legs’.

“It was a very scary experience. I was not hurt but my top was ripped and I was very shocked.”

As soon as she reached safety, Emma called her partner, who was at home looking after their two children, aged two and six.

The couple reported the incident to the police, despite Emma’s fears her dog could be taken away.

She said: “I thought they might try and take her because she had bitten someone, but they were great.

“One of the policemen who came round actually said he wanted to keep her.

“Maggie is great with people and fantastic with our kids, but she has also proved she is a brilliant guard dog.

“She is our hero and an absolute star.”

Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information about the incident, which happened at about 6.45pm near the junction of Statham Road and Eleanor Road, to come forward.

The offender was described as 5ft 11ins to 6ft, of very stocky build and in his late 20s to early 30s.

He was wearing white shorts, white socks, old white trainers and a dirty white T-shirt.

He is also expected to have puncture wounds on his left arm from Maggie’s bite.

(Must have lost his hockey stick this time.)

We were advised by the Vet to do it, apparently little dogs are prone to testicular cancer and what not. Plus he's a hyperactive little fella and is a 24 hour jizzing machine.

He's feeling very sorry for himself, and FWIW it wasn't my decision. I was fucking fuming at the decision.

He's getting pampered though, chicken and mince in one day.

Worra guy.

Proud of yer lad, it's for the best. Aren't you posed to keep to bland foods though? You'll see he'll be more balanced now and will calm over the next few months while the testosterone clears out his system.

We where told to give him chicken and rice for a few days. We had some lamb last night so we gave him some of that. Perks him right up.

He only has chicken every week or whatever meat we have for roast on a sunday.

It is depressing though, because even though he was hyper, barking. He wasn't nasty, it was just his way of wanting attention, saying hello and all that. Wasn't very nice for visitors, but this is his house and they can fuck off.

He's wagging his tail, he wagged it as soon as he came through the door.
