Wouldn't go as far as to call him a Liverpool legend but he was a model pro in his time here and genuinely one of my favorites. Outlasted 4 different managers, completely re-invented his game and as mentioned above looked to be really turning a corner the year he got his knee injury which was under King Kenny I believe. Always wondered if he would've been allowed to grow as an attacking player had that goal Phil Neville handled on the line for Everton gone in, but seeing as that was under Rafa probably not. I will say that I completely believe if he would've stuck around under Klopp if he was a bit younger when the man came in. Hope he enjoys a long, healthy, full life in retirement.

He was massively overrated by a lot of our fans.

I didn’t get the stuff about him being likeable either - saw that prank the club did on him and mignolet with a fake driver and he seemed a bit of a bell, as did Ming. Ringing the club to report him and snide comments between each other.

The over-zealous love and support for him helped to split the fan base when the pro and anti Rafa arguments where happening.

That said, I wish him all the best in retirement and with his health too.

One of my favourite players of that period, always gave 100%. I think I went a bit further with my support and admiration of him because a friend of mine who thinks he's some sort of football expert absolutely hated him.

This is what I’m saying - he was so divisive!

I went the other way, but for the exact opposite reason. A mate who sees the technical things us mere plebs never can lauded him.
