The Bob Paisley anniversary show at the Atkinson theatre Southport is not to be missed, 11/2/16 with Kennedy, Case, Neal and Callaghan.

For me, he is the best we had. But some of the "gentleman Bob" soubriquets don't do him justice. He had an iron grip on the media, and his players. His ability to get adverse stories spiked was legendary.

On a day when we had the Europa League draw it's worth remembering Bob's 1976 UEFA Cup triumph that is often overlooked, this was a trophy that at the time consisted of a country's top 2-5 sides so it was a cup of genuine quality.

It was a also a trophy that a lot of experts considered to be harder to win the the European Cup due to the upcoming future quality sides that was in it.

Unfortunately it is a trophy that UEFA have done their best to totally ruin.

Indeed Sticky,

Back in the day, sides that won the EUFA Cup were teams that were frequent winners of their own domestic League (obviously not the season prior) and were more than capable of contesting European Cup Finals as well.  Sides like Juventus and Borussia Monchengladach.  And us of course.

Love this and I didn't know that!

" A bricklayer by trade, Paisley once took it upon himself to rebuild the dugout at Anfield. It remains to this day."

Doubt theyd have done much better than they did under Charlton tbf.

Charlton inherited a squad that included McGrath Lawro Moran Whelan O'Leary Hughton Houghton Brady Sheedy Galvin Aldo Stapelton Quinn. All who played or were about to play with us the mancs, Arsenal, Everton or Spurs. A few more with Celtic and soon after Townsend, Staunton, Irwin were added. Bob may not have won the WC but it's not as if Charlton worked miracles
