We've spent 20 million this window. It all adds up and we still have a fairly mediocre squad. I think Sturridge is a good signing and coutinho has potential but we really do spend money badly. Has anyone ever spent as much as us to remain average. I would bite someone's nob off for a manager or a manager with a number 2 who can spot a player. Like clough had Taylor.

The club for years has seemed completely oblivious to what it needs and then even worse at recognizing and buying what it doesn't need. We are now in a position we shit ourselves when a player becomes too good because we no longer can offer what it takes to keep them. Well always be short of one or two star players because we can't keep the ones we have long enough to build a side good enough that players are prepared to stay.

Pursuade Suarez to stay and buy a couple of genuine brilliant players, set down the marker. The club needs a boot up the arse.

Yeah, let's go back to the infamous 'you dont win anything with kids', that was August 1995, which you can watch here if you so desire...

Kids? Yes, some, but the kids were marshalled by Schmeichel, Irwin, Bruce, Cantona, and Keane. Basically, 5 x Carragher.

You look at the age of the United kids back in the 95/96 season...

Phil Neville age 18/19

David Beckham age 19/20

Gary Neville age 19/20

Nicky Butt age 20/21

Paul Scholes age 20/21

Ryan Giggs age 21/22

And there's us with

Sterling age 17/18

Wisdom age 19/20

Robinson age 19/20

Coutinho age 20/21

Shelvey age 20/21

Borini age 21/22

Allen age 22/23

Henderson age 22/23

Our senior pro's arent leaders in the same way as United had back then. And bear in mind that Ince was there the last couple of seasons, as was Robson, the youngsters were around absolute cunts who wanted to win at all costs, and it rubbed off on the likes of the Nevilles and Butt, and even Giggs has that desire.

I would only cite Carragher as a massive influence like that. Gerrard has a huge will to win, but is sort of quiter with it, and Carragher isnt always involved in the first team. Suarez leads from the front, but English isnt his first language and he still uses a translator to conduct some interviews. We miss more communicators with a belly for a fight, like Carra is. These kids need to be learning, NOW, and picking up the right habits and mentality. I worry that they don't get that from the likes of Reina, Skrtel, Johnson, Agger, Enrique, Downing, Lucas, they seem like they need a bollocking themselves sometimes.

We can keep on collecting the World's Best Youngsters all we like, and people will jokingly refer to Hansen's comments and suggest that talented kids CAN win things on their own, but bear in mind that it was a terrific set of youngsters (Scholes, Giggs and Beckham scored a combined 28 league goals that season) complemented by big hairy bastards. You don't make big bastards like that, Lucas isnt going to turn into Roy Keane in 5 years, you are either born with it or not. It's about time we spent money on bringing that into the 'group'.

However, some managers dont like alpha males in their group because they can stand up to the manager and make him seem weaker.

Absolutely top post. Spot on.

Nobody seems to want to be concerned that this kid is injured. Wont be playing for some time, according to BR. I smell an Aquilani.

Where are you getting that from?

He was injured a little while ago and isn't yet match fit, so probably won't make the City game.

Exactly the same thing with Aquilani. Exactly.

He's not playing against city because he's back in Italy

"Pascoe added: "He has to sort a few things out in Milan but he'll be back next week and he'll be ready to start straight away. He will be a great addition to the squad."

They were already champions when they had these players coming through and had the likes of Schmeichel, Ince, Pallister, Hughes etc who had medals and the competition wasnt the best either.

We arent starting from a position of strength like they did so the comparison is unfair.

I was just going off what Rodgers said in the pre-match interview on Sunday. Said, because he had only been back a while from injury, that he wouldn't be ready for Citeh.

Don't know what the assessing is all about.

Presumably he wouldn't be involved at City anyway because he's never trained with fbe squad and has no experience of English football. At least let him meet and train with the team for a week.

He did play against Spurs, so your point is quite valid.

Bet Kopout doesnt mention that his beloved Carroll was injured for 2 months after we signed him too.

I was pretty pissed actually, by the fee, and the fact that he was injured quite badly. Fortunately for us, Kuyt partnered Suarez very well, and Meireles stepped up too.

Comolli appeared to be a Jekyl and Hyde. A bit like Kiwi women that get behind the wheel of a car.
