    • We need him, get him in January
    • Not what we need. We need someone with more quality and experience
    • Not seen him play enough/Unsure about him

Dries Mertens is a quality player and probably just behind Hazard, the best Belgian attacking player. PSV have 2 or 3 players who are top, top notch and would easily improve our team. Same goes for Ajax too.

I wouldn't be against Sturridge. He's a good player who needs regular games and direction. With regular games he'll score plenty of goals. My reservation is this buying English malarky, you simply do not get good value for money.

Yep, there are definitely players out there. Loads, actually. I bet we'll fuck it up, though.

some, well most of these players will have multiple suitors. Also no longer is the PL the big draw it was, with the obvious exceptions of a big wage packet.

All across Europe there are players. When you consider how much money we've spent, from Ged through to Kenny, and how little we have for it, it makes you sick.

We could have quite the side for reasonably little investment. Gah. Pointless fantasising that we will spend it well.

Indeed it does. With last years cluster fucks taking top prize.

I think fifteen million might be a bit steep, but I reckon he could improve us. Worried about this thing with his hamstring though.

When you compare it to being the equivelant of just under half a Andy Carroll or three quarters of a Downing or nearly a Jordan Henderson,it suddenly looks a bargain at £15 million.

Rodgers obviously has doubts about him, hence insisting on a loan rather than purchase during the last window. If that's the case, I'd rather wait for the right player than be forced into a significant deal we're not sure about.

He just doesn't seem the death by football type and could easily become next years millstone.

How much would the Armenian lad that plays for Donetsk cost? Mkhitaryan, I mean.

Heard some good things, and then he really stood out in the one half of football I've seen him play as someone with something about him. Just went and checked his stats on wikipedia and he's scored 17 goals in 16 league games this season in Ukraine! And he's not even a striker, plays in the middle of the 3 in a 4-2-3-1 for them.

For all I know he'd cost the earth, but when you're looking in the category of "Young players who score goals" they tend to be expensive. It's a shame we're skint, really. Another goalscorer or two from the Walcott/Mertens/Jovetic bracket and we would be a very good side.

Is Sturridge someone Rodgers would know from his time at Chelsea? Maybe that's the reason he seems doubtful and interested all at once.

Without trying to suggest this is equal - United wanted David Hurst and settled for Cantona!

It would be great to sign Mertens but if he isn't going to come this January window then we cannot wait - we need two, maybe three players a.s.a.p. and at the moment Sturridge, Ince, Walcott seem the best way to get those players.

Sturridge will provide far more to our current team, whatever his limitations may be, than not buying him and waiting until the summer.

Dont understand why should wait until summer anyhow. We should buy now and in summer. Any acquisition in January will, after all, be a hangover from the lack of dealings last summer.

Spending £20m this January should not impinge on our budget next summer. Although our spending needs to be managed, the amount of Revenue the club makes is matched by few. We will also probably shift a couple of players too.

That wasn't really my point, sorry, what I mean't was that we need players now and if Mertens isn't available now we cannot wait. I wasn't referring to the money - but the need to get players in this January.

Sounds like a plot for a romantic comedy right there.

Daniel is a mouthy young footballer with a heart of gold. Always the bridesmaid, Brendan is both attracted and irritated by Daniel. These hidden feelings intensify as they begin to share the same workplace, with hilarious results!
