Suarez - Fowler crossed with Beardsley

Clearly Kuyt takes the plaudits as striker with his wonderful hat-trick, but every single opposition player and fan and manager would have been watching that game and thinking:

"Ohhhh fuck"

Suarez in his first few games was redolent of a right-footed Fowler, but that's not quite right. He's nowhere near God's level as a finisher. But while he isn't that quick, his skill, movement, chutzpah, guile, determination and all-round ace-ness reminded me of a combination of the two.

He was unplayable at times, inside and outiside the penalty area. He dropped deep, went wide, poached in the 6 yard box. His close control is mesmerising.

He is the attacking player we have been crying out for over the last 10 years.

Superstar - not in the making - NOW.

First real number 7 we've had since McManaman.

I can't help thinking he would be best deployed with a fast, clinical striker ahead of him because with all of his creative skills he would find his partner regularly. Carroll probably isn't that player, so maybe we will be in for one this summer. It would give us the all round package up front. Add a bit of steel to the midfield and back four and we're laughing.

Have to agree with you Silver lad, this fella is already worth his weight in gold. Torres had a great goal scoring record (at Anfield) but he had the first touch of a rapist and contributed little to the team in the way of assists and general play. Some might say that is bitterness but l found Torres so frustrating to watch at times. Anyway, enough about that creepshow! Star man again for me today, great performance from our new No.7 and long may it continue.

His beating of players is insane, especially in such tight spaces, work rate, touch, good free kicks, assists, he's got the lot. The goals will come too, he's been unlucky in that respect with the post, bar and Green making the save of the season.

We lost Fernando Torres in january and have come out of it better off.

That's what he's capable of, now it's a case of Kenny getting that out of him 8 times out of ten appearances.

Today it was all about adrenaline, it's about how to best use him in games like Wolves away, and how to motivate the rest of the team as well. Make no mistake, that performance would have beaten any team in Europe, perhaps Barca aside.

Faultless for 92 minutes.

But this team needs movement in order for Suarez to be effective like today. Maxi and Kuyt were excellent today, as was Meireles in terms of getting up and offering another option.

His close control is as good as anyone in English football. I don't think he'll necessarily be a prolific goal scorer for us as he seems quite fond of dropping deep/wide but could well surpass Torres on total goals/assists. Appears to be that rare breed of top striker who thrives on parternships rather than viewing them as a nuisance.
