The President is a figurehead, yes they make the final decisions but it's the calibre of the people beneath them - and how willing/able they are to listen to those people that matters. 

 

The fact Trump was a grotesque, stupid fuck wasn't the biggest problem, it was the hubris and contempt for America's institutions that was the problem. 

 

He put his son in law - an estate agent - in charge of the Middle East peace process and an NFL owner as ambassador to the UK. There was talk of whole departments of the State Department being empty, literally empty. 

 

Half the reason Putin is in such a bolshy position now is because America was asleep at the wheel for four years, with its institutions like the CIA and FBI under constant attack from their own fucking boss and his cunt party.

The US constitution has lots of checks and balances. But it's crazy there's no upper age limit for standing for the Presidency, more so when there's a minimum age limit of about 37, I think it is?

The FBI, their other instruments of state held strong, our Met literally stood outside while people partied, then seemingly tried to derail the subsequent parliamentary investigation.
