Raheem Sterling and others

Think it's worth giving a few of these a game in the coming weeks. If we have given up on finishing as high up the league as we can (team selection last week shows this might be the case), then let's gave a look at one or two possibles for the future. See if they can grab their opportunity.

we need to play Coates sometimes and also put Henderson in centre midfield for all games for the rest of the season and have Carroll and Suarez start every game to get something going and also give the likes of Sterling, Morgan and Suso etc the odd run out

Going to agree with this... If we've got a player near ready for the first team, then 10 minutes at the end of a match might do them some good.

Liverpool are facing a fight to keep wonderkid Raheem Sterling as Kenny Dalglish continues to ignore calls for the teenager to be handed a first-team role.

And Tottenham plan to pounce on the uncertainty over Sterling's future with a shock summer move.

The England Under 18 star is widely recognised as the best young prospect at Anfield but the Merseysiders could lose the 17-year-old at the end of the season due to his frustration at the lack of first-team chances.

Red alert: Sterling is frustrated at lack of first-team opportunities

Sources close to the forward claim the talented teen is struggling to settle in Merseyside and is now said to be considering his future.

The source also added that Liverpool have broken promises made to Sterling over his level of first-team involvement this season.

In 2010, Liverpool paid QPR £500,000, in a deal that could rise to £6million, to sign Sterling as a 15-year-old.

In February 2011, he looked set to become the youngest player in Liverpool's history - at 16 years and 71 days - when he was named in the squad to face Sparta Prague in the Europa League.

Bright future: Sterling has represented England at junior levels

However, he is still to make his full debut despite being told he would be given chances.

Sterling is set to feature in tomorrow night's NextGen Series semi-final against Ajax and Sportsmail has learned that a senior Tottenham scout will attend the clash specifically to watch the youngster.

The Daily Mong selling him to Tottenham. Seriously though, they are not ready yet. We have to be patient and develop them properly.

Yeah and he'll be put in the spurs team ahead of Bale and Lennon, do these hack clowns do any research

I doubt Sterling is expecting to play every game, but I think 10/15 minutes here and there, and some cup appearances wouldn't have been out of the question.

We do this all the time though, because we're so precariously balanced, these players never come through as they should. Last season, we looked as though we were showing young players that we would be a good team to join, with Robinson and Flanegan, but we've reverted to type again this year, because of the money we've blown. Sterling might be raw, and maybe he's not ready to take on the league yet, but he's not going to develop that ability in the reserves, or on loan to Blackpool next season.

He needs to learn, by playing in our team in our stadium. He simply cannot be any worse than some of the attacking performances we've seen this season. It might also have acted as a kick up the arse to some of the first team.

Sterling has been in the match day squad quite a few times now hasn't he. I think this is all part of the process of getting him used to the way that things work, with hopefully a view to giving him some playing time towards the end of the season. He is very talented, but it does need to be nurtured correctly.

Sterling was to young to go on loan until he turned 17 recently, that's FA rule. He should probably get a run out soon but he doesn't help himself, he was in squad at Exeter and because he didn't get on bench he was on twitter given out.

That mail article is bollocks, he hasn't settled? His whole family were moved up by the club and he has 2 birds on Merseyside pregnant, he's settled to bloody well it seems

Slow bloody process it'll be 2015 by the time he starts a game for us.

Just get him on the pitch and lets see what he can do.

The problem is that we never decide our games early anymore so Kenny won't be taking the risk. In that case it might just as well be better to start them and let them play the first half and if it doesn't work out make the substitution at half time.

Thats fair enough at the start of the season , but now our league season is a complete write off and we have nothing to lose theres no reason not to play them like we did with a few at the end of last year.

I agree, give him some minutes this season and then more game time in the Carling Cup and Europa League next season.

Raheem ,Adam Morgan ,Andri Wisdom and Conner Cody should all be given a go ,the league is slipping away, some fresh young guys involved could give some of them the kick up the backside they need.

Morgan can't even do it at reserve level, Coady won't make it here IMO, wisdom doubtful, Suso Sterling Adorjan may step up next season and certainly have the talent wether they have the head for it is a different matter

We have to be patient and develop them properly.

What does that mean in practise?

Players learn by playing, if that means they should be learning their trade at Blackpool, Crewe, Maccy or Wrexham, so be it.

I remain unconvinced that if a player is good enough, he learns very much as an 18 year old playing in the reserves.

One of the issues is that reserve team football has become a farce. With the increased number of subs allowed, the first team squad of 25 are out of it. Take a look at the make-up of most PL reserve sides and it is a bizarre combination of youth, players who have fallen out with the manager, loan signings, the odd trialist and old pros wonding down.

Let's not forget that Dalglish and Clarke see these lads in training and see them up against the first team players at Melwood.

We see them when they're playing against other players in the same age level - and the occasional reserve game against more experienced players.

If they're good enough, they'll get their chance. How many players have left us after being hyped up only to settle at lower end premier league or championship teams?

It would be nice to see young players on the bench every now and then but I think people have expectations which are far too high for these kids. Sterling could easily go the same way as Pacheco, Nemeth etc

been the problem of the last decade - we simply haven't been good enough to draft in 1 or 2 younsters here or there. Instant success is demanded and that means playing the highly paid stars etc. I thought the policy we were meant to be following is bringing the youngsters through and they need some game time to progress.

that said - i enjoyed the carling cup win - in seasons gone by we lost to northampton with a reserve team.....
