Well quite. What next - they remake Death on the Nile featuring Hercule Poirot armed with a chaingun?

Holmes was an expert boxer, a proficient martial-arts fighter and fencer and also a drug addict who happended to get into a quite a few scrapes.

yeah it's slightly encouraging, however he also says seek out a review by Kim Newman on it. Being a holmes nerd i'll still go see it.

Kermode doesn't seem well versed at all in Holmes and is judging it simply as a piece of throwaway entertainment.

I dunno, i don't want Holmes to be throwaway, inspite of his pulp origins he's never been disposable.

It's been getting very good reviews so i went with pretty high expections.

Have to say i really enjoyed it, very good performances from Downey Jr and even Jude Law, who i'm not the biggest fan of normally. Some ace fist fights and action scenes also. As a downside i'd say at 2 hours 15 minutes it's probably a bit too long, and the female roles are very underwritten like in all Guy Richie films.

Overall though i'd highly recommend it, even if you normally hate Richie's films.

Fucking hell. Now the film makes more sense and I was enjoying thinking how shit hollywood was for making it like they did.
