Downing, Bentley and Barry are the future and people better get used to the Muskateers arriving for our title challenge

With the exception of Barry all better than what we have in thier current positions now

Bentley is probably an improvement on Dirk or Pennant but not a significant enough improvement to make me want us to spend 15m pounds on him.

Downing better than Babel? My big fat hairy arse.

Bentley is a very good player & I wouldn't be against signing him, but for him to be worth £15m he needs to score more goals. Downing is another player who is decent but needs to add more to his game to be worth the reported £12m. For £27m combined we could do a lot better and I doubt we will sign either. Ryan Babel is a rough diamond and if we can find his best position and he can find consistency then we will have one hell of a player on our hands.

Save the £27m on those two and buy Quaresma with change left over for a cheap squad player just to please Rafa! ;)

Rash, I was reading in the latest World Soccer that Quaresma has a record of 2 goals in 20 games for Portugal, hardly earth shattering considering some of the shite you get to play in international football. Coupled with his failure at Barcelona and his failing to shine in the CL, I can't see why you're getting yourself all worked up about him.

Quaresma's goalscoring record at club level isn't that great either, but if he could find the right club and the right manager then I think he could flourish. He has the talent and the physical attributes to be a success in the premiership. The biggest doubt I would have about him is his attitude.

How anybody can doubt Quarsema is beyond me. He has what we in the trade call "sweet feet"

Stewart Downing does not have sweet feet.

I don't think anybody could question Quaresma's talent, but does he have the hunger and the desire though?

Given the choice (and the money), I'd go for Quaresma

ahead of:

Barry

Bentley

Downing

Mancini

Milner

Riera

A more difficult choice would be:

Quaresma or Maxi Rodriguez

Maxi is quality, and tough enough for any league

I'd have Maxi myself. I'm not doubting Quaresma's ability but I have doubts whether he would be able to cope with the Premier League and also think his temperament may cause a few problems. I would not be disappointed if he was to come but I'd have Maxi given the choice.

One interesting stat I noticed today on SSN was that Downing and Bentley are both in the top five for creating chances for team-mates and putting in crosses.

Possibly sheds light on our reported interest in the pair of them.

I think the interest in Bentley has ended which is a shame as I think at the right price he would have been a good signing.

The thing i cant understand is that Downing will cost a lot of money, he's just signed a new contract ffs. If we in actual fact have money to splash on an attacking midfielder then Downing should be 9999th place on the list.

Downing doesn't exactly tickle my trout either, but he would be an immediate (and quite a big) improvement on what we have now. As would Bentley. We shouldn't be developing people in the first team. They should arrive with the ability to at least be able to trap a ball.
