I don't think this thread has anything to do with me or Cath. Chris and some others find it offensive, and that's the crux of the argument. My 2p's worth is that every other thread on the GF has the potential to offend someone, and if everyone was banned for causing offence there'd only be Stouffer and G. Richards left.

 

I have never been offended by anything PB15 has said to me. I do find it funny. Rob is a really sweet guy and I don't think he's perverted in the slightest. It's just banter. As for RL's post, I wouldn't reply to that but I certainly don't consider it harassment. I wouldn't reply to it even if I had no brothers on here. I joke about sex in a general sense but I'm not one for talking about it on a personal level either on here or on real life.

 

Call me old fashioned but I believe that a sexual act should be kept sacred between a person and their partner. I don't even talk about my own sex life in any great detail with my closest friends. I certainly wouldn't talk about it with strangers.

 

There are plenty of sex related threads on the GF. Is it sexual harassment merely because one of them was aimed at women? One of the best things about the GF is being treated as one of the lads. I prefer to discuss monkey fights to Colleen's wedding dress. I (and I'm sure the other girls) don't want treating differently because of our gender.

In general terms, how I address and interact with my friends is nobody's business but ours.

 

Therein lies the crux; it all goes back to the nature of complex inter-forumite relationships; I reckon there should be a large flow chart produced which shows "who knows who", "who is related to who", "who can take the piss out of/enjoy banter with/throw the term cunt at who".

 

It's when some comments are seen as the norm, or in some way socially acceptable on a universal level that problems could ensue; say someone registered tomorrow and thought "aha - I'll jump on that thread and add my tuppence worth", without really getting the history between the posters, it would no doubt be offensive to the recipient of said banter. (There, that was nearly English).

 

As for the whole "Okay, the ladies don't find it offensive, but I do" argument, I would cite the case of "Tough vs Shit"; as has been discussed many, many, many times before, there are no real boundaries per se, and if you don't like something, you don't have to read it. (That isn't a pop at anyone before righteous indignation ensues).

I think it's fair to say that people on here can speak for themselves and I'm sure that jumping in to defend the women on here is in some ways just as offensive as the things which were posted. It is up to the individual to voice their opinion and people speaking for collective groups that they are not a part of is ridiculous.
