Dave, I agree that the top players do aim for honours etc. However, when you look at where Barry is at now, with only a few years left of his professional career and suddenly ManCity offers him £5 million more a year; I cannot see many mortals who will turn down that kind of money. Footballers are people too. You can call it what you want, greedy etc, but most of us if not all know that we have to look out for Number One. Is it inexcuseable, unforgiveable, bastardly? I don't think so. He is just looking out for himself and I think we would all do the same.

I don't think that is correct at all. A footballer knows that once his professional career is over, he's never going to earn that kind of money again. The mentality to milk his talent for all it is worth (whether honours or money) is ever present. And please don't tell me that Barry is not moved by a pay increment of 40K to 130K a week. That's a 300+% pay rise. From under £2 million to close to £7 million a year just wages. Lets be realistic here. Except for billionaires, anyone who says that £5 million a year is nothing is flat out lying.

I don't understand why a footballer leaving the club for higher wages is known as a 'mercenery', 'greedy' etc. Fucking hell most if not all of us on here would change companies if the next job in the same capacity paid 100% more (in Barry's case its even more). Just because he earns way more than most of us is not the way to look at it as his reference point is different. Hypocrites.
