It’s insane that Kelleher, Bradley and Quansah start our biggest league game of the season and are so solid that we probably take them for granted a little.

It’s also insane that Jurgen is doing the groundwork for the next manager’s squad regeneration, while staying alive in four competitions.

There has been no drop off in quality at all. In fact, I think we’re more secure at the back now.

It’s a shame we can’t do it with the forwards at the min cos Diaz and Nunez are running themselves into the ground.

With his concussion gone, surely Danns gets Thursday’s game and 15 and 20 minutes in other games from now on. He looks ready.

Do people actually watch konate or just go along with the consensus he’s this Baresi clone. Holding down the entire right hand said??? He’s all over the place ffs. Next time he plays have a look at where he is in relation to the rest of the back 4 when teams are flooding into our box. He’s nowhere to be seen and if he is, he’s gawping at the play from the edge of the box.

guess who doesn’t do this? Quansah and virgil

Behave, you.

I see the point you're making, although I think it's a bit harsh. Konate is a front foot defender and he wants to use his physical attributes to win his 1 on 1 battles. I agree that can often be to the detriment of the defensive unit - if he doesn't win his 1 on 1 battle, or they just bypass him, he can leave a lot of space, which is often exaggerated because of whatever we do at right back. I think while he's much better, konate is of a similar style defender to Lovren, where quansah has more of the Matip's about him.

For me it's a simple choice at this point. Quansah has shown he can do it against just about anyone. He stays fit and seems to be improving with each game. When konate gets back, I'd be more than happy if quansah holds his shirt and konate is used to take him out when needed. We know konate can't start every game and the more stability we have in our back 4 can only help for the run in.

Talk online tonight is the club will offer him a new deal this summer, only signed a new deal last year. Deserves one aswell, bar the one mistake he has been superb when called on this year. Didn't expect anything like these performances from him

If we only renewed last year, you'd have to guess he must have a trigger in his contract to negotiate a new deal if he plays a certain number of games.

By what i can find online he is on 15k a week. So yeah, they have likely said either verbally or in the deal they will review and adjust after this season. That is fair enough on them sort of wages. The club should reward performances and making the step up

He’s still a young player, and the club seems to be quite firm in their policy of not throwing crazy money on young players. A good policy imo.

In the case of Quansah however, his performances have been so good that a new long term contract with a sensible pay rise looks like a very sensible move.

He’s been consistent at a very high level all season. And yes, I’m aware he made a massive mistake in a big game, all players do that from time to time.

Yeah, he had a good game, although I've not rewatched the goals and I'm not sure if he could or should have done better on them. Some of his reading of the game today though was superb.

He was not great on a couple of occasions but you cannot blame just one person for the defensive shambles towards the end.

Haven’t rewatched their goals either, he may or may not have made mistakes there,

But overall he was once again very impressive. On the ball there are not many better, he’s so calm and composed it’s unreal. The Warrington Hansen above isn’t way off i think. Hansen is probably my fovourite CB of all times, even if Van Dijk is a better overall player, and over the 30 years since the former retired I’ve never compared a CB to him. First time was in the match thread today,

He’s been excellent all season. Will be a top CB in the PL for sure, whether or not he can make the last step to world class and first choice here remains to be seen.

I'd settle for the Warrington matip providing he could stay fit.

I'd rather he's not regarded as world class so he isn't picked for national team and keeps turning it on for us.
